when are you going? I was there last Memorial Day and bit the bullet and stayed at Lowes....no outdoor pool and never used the lovely indoor pool. When we visited a rooftop pool in the quarter, when I touched the water I knew I would not have spent much time sitting in the sultry heat when the pool itself was nearly steaming with the heat of the day.

It was the hotel with the carousel bar....????

I love the Dauphine. The courtyard rooms are fabulous. Pricier than the rest of the hotel (across the street) but a world away. http://www.dauphineorleans.com/guestrooms.html

We stayed at the Place d'Armes, which has a pool in the courtyard. We were there in the summertime and because the pool is in the courtyard, there isn't a view, but it is pretty shady except at mid day.

The courtyard and pool at the Royal Sonesta are very nice. Get a room overlooking the pool area rather than Bourbon Street if you want a good night's sleep!

Actually, some of the pools in the Quarter are ice cold, even in the summer because they are shaded most of the day and never really get to warm up. This is great when you want to really refresh yourself after walking around and getting sweaty.
