Hotel Not Far from Denver Airport

We are looking for a comfortable hotel within about an hour of the Denver airport where we can book a room with a balcony and view. Is there any such place?

Yes, there is. I don't really know the names of them, but there are several chain hotels out by the airport, around Smith Road, 56th, I think.

Some could have nice views, as you can see the mountains well from out there.

Here's a quick sample:

Have never stayed in any of them. Some are closer to restaurants, like Ted's Montana Grill (bison and home-style ribs, meat loaf, etc.)

There could also be hotels with views around the Flatirons mall, off the Boulder turnpike.

Depends on which way you are headed. That would be less than an hour.

The others by DIA would be about 15 minutes' drive from the airport.

You have choices. I don't know who has view rooms, but there should be a fair number of them.

I'll be interested in what you find out.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I found Omni Interlocken, Broomfield. It is more expensive than we like, but it has the rooms and views we want, and it is about 35 miles from the airport.

Lots of traffic there right now, because US36 has ongoing construction; make sure you allow for that (better to use the toll road to and from the airport, aka the Northwest Parkway; entry is very close).

Using the toll road in a rental car might be very expensive since I think it may be added to your bill (like $25) from some things I have read here.

Thanks for alerting me to the possible problem with a toll road and rental car--a problem we ran into in Texas. I'll get it out thoroughly.

I wouldn't bother with the toll road. Hwy 36 isn't that bad. Hopefully you aren't making the drive in rush hour.

The Omni should be fine, if it has the view and you don't mind the price.

Enjoy Colorado!

HTtY, To avoid the toll road the usual procedure is:

From Pena Boulevard head north on Tower Road, then turn west on 104th Ave. Continue west on 104th until it runs into Hwy 36, which will be near your hotel. A look at a map will clarify that. There is a nice Westin near there as well, don't know how it stacks up vs. the Omni.

Have a great trip.

Thanks for this specific information. If we make the drive between 8:30-8:45 a.m., how much time should we plan to make it to the airport?

To the airport, or to the Omni?

That's the tail end of rush hour. Maybe an hour, either way. Plus or minus 15 minutes.

I'm not sure, because I haven't driven it in rush hour forever.

PS. The Omni might have a view of the Flatirons, which is one of my favorite overlooks in the state. Nice view of Voulder, too. If it's the one on top of the hill, that I'm thinking of.

And you'll be halfway to Boulder, if you're interested in visiting. Or Golden.

What are your plans for staying in CO?

Allow time for the drop off--and to go through the TSA maze at DIA--always an adventure. And then to get the train to your gate. DIA is not a time friendly airport, IMO.

What are your plans for staying in CO?

We have visited CO three times before. This time, in early September, we are concentrating on the areas around Mt. Evans, Aspen, Glenwood Springs, Steamboat Springs, and Rocky Mountain National Park (with a side trip to the Moab area).

To the airport, or to the Omni?

To the airport. I am compulsively early.

In that case, I'd allow more time. I thought you were flying in and going to the hotel from DIA.

I would stay closer to DIA in that case. You will have seen gorgeous scenery in those places.

If you are compulsively early to catch a plane (I am, too), I would stay at the places I first named. Less chance of traffic issues at 8:30 am.

The lanes have been greatly reduced, making for a frazzling drive even if they haven't closed a lane.
Here's a chart of the toll fees in a rental, perhaps not worth the cost:

https://www.expresstoll.com/HowE-470...ntal-Cars.aspx

If you decide not to go via E470/Northwest Pkwy, I wouldn't take 104/Tower/Pena; it has a LOT of lights, and I've been stuck waiting for trains more than a couple of times.
From the Omni to DIA, I'd take 36 to 270 to 70, to Pena and the airport.

You should clarify what you are wanting to do. With in an hour of DIA does not mean much especially since the airport on the east side and where you want to be is mostly on the West. During rush hour the hour would be in the downtown area. Non rush hour and it would be Golden or Boulder.

Your concentration is widely scattered. You need to check the map. It is impossible to do a day side trip from RMNational Park to Moab. The distance from Mt. Evans to Steamboat is significant. Second, you are concentrating along I-70, the Omni is off your path especially if returning to Denver. If you need to dump a car and check in early, I would stay the last night near the airport just for convenience. Lot of nice hotels in the area. Will not get a balcony but you can a view from the higher floors. The Omni is not a good choice for get to the airport in early AM especially if the nervous type.

Personally think the airport is very time friendly when compared to many others of the same size.

I would agree that your best bet is to stay near the airport. Having said that, should you choose to stay at the omni, I'd suggest skipping the highway to the airport. Take 104th East to tower Rd then go south (right) on tower to pena Blvd. Signs will guide you from there to the airport. I live very near the omni and take that route to the airport every time. Used to do it more often when i traveled for work, 2-3x a year now.
Enjoy your visit to Colorado!

We enjoyed our stay at the Omni Interlocken.

I got a good AAA deal on a 10th-floor room with balcony and mountain view. There are quite a few restaurants within a short drive of the hotel, and our toll-free drive to the airport was just about what maps.google predicted for the morning rush hour--55 minutes vs. 37 minutes under ideal conditions.

Thanks for your suggestions and hints.
