Hotel Neighboorhoods For NYC Trip

My wife and I are planning a trip to NYC in April. I'm looking at a couple of hotels in the Murray Hill area or on the Upper East Side. I'm sure the Upper East Side location will be fine, but I was wondering about Murray Hill? We plan on going to a show and visting the Met. We'll also make a trip to the Village/SoHo. Any thoughts? Thanks.

We have a great transport system that will take you to all those places. The issue is what kind of ambiance/hotel do you want? Not many choices on the UES.

What's your budget?

Both the Upper East Side and Murray Hill are very residential, quiet and safe areas. I don't have specific resommendations for Murray Hill but on the Upper East Side you might consider The Mark on East 77th Street off Madison. You will be right near Central Park, Madison Ave Shopping and can take Fifth Ave bus straight downtown.

The Mark has been bought and will be closing but I don't know when. Agree it would be a good choice for this trip if they're available and still open.

I didn't realize The Mark will be closing. The Surrey on 76th is also nice but pricey -- goes with the neighborhood.

I have always been a big fan of the Kimpton Hotel Chain (a chain of boutique hotels that are upscale, funky, and have lots of little amenities), I've stayed at a half a dozen or so. I have plans myself to stay at the one in Murray Hill section of NYC this February for the first time. Check out their website www.kimpton.com and check on New York City, it's the only one there.
