anybody want to take a stab at Thursday night options, so we avoid the 4pm-6pm crunch tomorrow?
My guess is they made about 350-400 miles today, from outskirts of Boston to central PA, between Scranton and Harrisburg.
Same pace tomorrow puts them in southern Virginia, maybe all the way to NC if they push it. I'll put the betting line at Virginia, no further south. Any takers?
Kind of like our own Fodors Amazing Race.

hehe thanks for the follow up.
They made it to strasburg.
The plan tomorrow is to get close to SAvannah, GE or an hour or so before or after....so what would be a good town near there that would be good for priceline?? I am actually flying on Friday to meet them there, looking forward to it! But I have to say, this is also fun..hehe

I say spend a little more and bid for a 3* in Savannah Historic district. Downtown Savannah is just a short detour from I-95, and it's a beautiful city to spend an evening.
A lot of people are getting the Hyatt Regency for about $60.
With three "free rebid zones" offering up to 7 free rebids combinations, it's hard to overpay, unless all those hotels are not releasing rooms to Priceline.

I totally agree with rkkwan they should stay downtown. When I drove to Fla., we stayed at the La Quinta on I 95 (overshot the downtown exit) and wound up driving into downtown anyway to have a look and dinner. Staying on the highway is "anywhere USA."
Had a nice meal at Bistro Savannah, but Mrs. Wilkes dining room is famous.

They are currently in Richmond as of 10h30 AM Eastern Time, so they should be able to get to Savannah not too late. They will confirm after lunch that this is the plan and I will try and get them a hotel with priceline. How large is Savannah? Will there be lots of traffic and difficulty getting to the Hyatt? How much of a detour will thise cause them? THANKS AGAIN!

Why were they in Richmond? Why didn't they stay on I-81 to I-77?
Anyways, Savannah is a very big place. Downtown historic district is about 7 miles from I-95, and there's freeway for most of the way. So, not going to add much travel time.

They will traveling I-95 to Savannah instead of through the Shenandoah Valley. Richmond to Savannah is 473 miles, 7:00. They've already driven 160 miles and about 2:30.
If they make Savannah, look into the Hilton Savannah DeSoto and the Garden Hotel. Both sent me proposals last week for a future reunion site, and both look great. The Garden Hotel is new, having opened this past spring.

I'll be making the portion of the trip from Maryland to Florida next week so I'll be wathing with interest.
And yes, rkkwan, you picked the same Grantville Holiday Inn - I've stopped there a couple times taking my Mom and MIL back and forth from NE PA.
