Hotel Needed 12/6 in NYC

Looking for the best rate on a decent (3 star?)Hotel convenient to 780 Third Avenue (Between 48th and 49th Streets) in Mid-town Manhattan. What would you consider a reasonable rate (if there is such a thing in NYC). Will be attending a seminar, and only staying one night, so don't need a lot of amenities. Any suggestions for websites that have good deals? Have done Priceline for a personal trip in the past, but reluctant to do for a business trip in case I need to cancel.

A reasonable rate for the first 2 1/2 weeks in December in Manhattan will be around $300 per night.

Good luck!

I'd check Hotwire.com first.

Yes, do check hotwire! I checke d just now, and they had a 3 star hotel in Times Square area for 208 a night. When I first started checking out hotel on hotwire the cheapest was 300!! Must not be as full as they thought it would be, If I did not have a great room at the Hotel 414, I would definitely do hotwire for NYC!!!

Quikbook is showing the Excelsor on the upper west side for about $360 - nothing on the east side for anywhere near that. And anything substantially less is at one of the airports. But - their inventory changes constantly.

Doesn't the seminar have hotel arrangements - usually they can offer better rates than the general public will get?

You might try the Grand Hyatt - which is on 42 st - and is so big that it sometimes will come up with an extra room at the last minute at a not bad rate.

I don;t think Priceline is the answer - in December they typically have very little inventory to sell - and that only places no one will want to stay - or the very highest end places.
