Hotel near Walter Reed Hospital

Hi,
My husband and I will be down at Walter Reed on Sunday, Feb 5th for one night. We're driving down from NYC and returning home the next morning. We are looking for a reasonably priced hotel for one night only. We won't be spending much time at the hotel. Just need a clean room in a safe area to sleep. We're thinking that it may make sense to stay in Maryland since that is closer to home and we need to get on the road back to NY early. Can anyone recommend a town that we should look into? How about College Park?

Thank you.
Jenny

Silver Spring, Maryland, is probably one of the closest areas. Here is a link to some of the hotels in the area:

There's a brand new Marriott Courtyard (only open a couple of months) in dt Silver Spring.

It's a very nice revitalized area there and is a quick trip to Walter Reed. It's very safe and there are numerous eating options, but nothing really high end. Nice wine bar across the street, though.

There's also a Hilton and another (Crowne Plaza) there. Avoid the cheapies (Ramada, Motel 6, Days Inn) that are closer to Walter Reed.

College Park has very little in terms of decent lodging.

I work at WRAMC and suggest you stay in Sylvia (as some of us call it) Spring as others have recommended.

Thank you all. I will definitely look into the hotel options in Silver ("Sylvia") Spring!

I live in that area, and would also recommend Silver Spring--there are a couple decent hotels there. Do not just look for some cheap motel in SS (or anywhere in DC), or you will be sorry (there is a horrible Ramada motel or something like that a bit south of the metro). Do not stay near Walter Weed, it's a bad area and the motels are bad. College Park is much farther than Silver Spring and I don't like that area anyway, no point to going there.

SS is the best choice, I think, but I don't quite know the route to NY. Second, I guess I'd pick Chevy Chase or Bethesda area.
