Hotel near Texas Stadium?

We will be attending an event @ Texas Stadium. The event will last from 12:00 P.M. to 12:00 A.M. We will be traveling with our 2 and 9 year old sons. Could anyone recommend a decent hotel that we could walk back and forth to? (in case the 2year old needs a nap etc.) I've never been to the Texas Stadium. Is it located in an area that is safe to walk?

Unfortunately, there are NO hotels within walking distance from Texas Stadium. :-( The stadium is in an industrial area, and it is surrounded by a trucking company, used car lots, and 2 major freeways. The area is NOT pedestrian-friendly, especially with a toddler! (I drive past the stadium every day on my way to work.)

The only close hotels are a Microtel, the independent Stadium Inn, and the Sterling Hotel, and they are all a couple of miles away. There are are several hotels in Irving/Las Colinas area that are a very short drive. I know there is a Comfort Suites and an Amerisuites.

Good luck!

I was hoping for something close to avoid dealing with parking and traffic.

Hm... Sorry, you're talking about Texas here. People drive from one store in a strip center to another store in the same center. You cannot walk to the stadium to/from anywhere.

There is a Super 8 a Regal Row and 183 in Dallas that advertises it has van service to Texas Stadium. Another though would be to take taxis.

That just seems crazy. So all of the drunk football fans get into their car and drive to their hotels?

rkkwan Jan 29th, 2006 06:25 AM

Why do you think football fans are drunk? And not everybody drives their own car. They can have a designated non-drinking driver for their group.

Driving is a way of life here in Texas. One plans how much to drink, who's the designated driver, etc basically everywhere we goes. Dinner, party, after-work happy hours, etc...

So, don't be alarmed. Don't be hysterical.

FYI, Texas Stadium stops serving alcohol at the end of the 3rd quarter. And, at about $5 a beer, it's way too expensive to get "drunk" at a Cowboys game!

The new Cowboys' stadium, which will be built in about 2009, will be very walkable and pedestrian-friendly. You have to remember that Texas Stadium was built in the early 1970's when walking was not cool!

Walking outdoors will never be literally cool in Texas in the summer (or early fall) ! :)

elovell - sorry if you don't like the answers you are getting but as a nearby resident I can tell you they speak the truth. There are no hotels or other tourist friendly places within walking distance of Texas Stadium. As ChristieP pointed out the stadium is located at the intersection of 2 very heavily travelled highways. It's not condusive for walking anywhere. Rethink you plans - you will need a rental car or have to rely on others for transportation!
