hotel near New York University
 

I'm attending a graduation in a few weeks at NYU and am wondering if someone could give me a recommendation for an inexpensive or mid priced hotel nearby. Thanks in advance!

Washington Square Hotel.

Graduation is at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

You can get the B OR D train about a block away at the West 4th St Station.

If graduation is in Yankee Stadium, you should be able use a much bigger area to look for a hotel.

But the dorms are basically downtown and the trains are very, very close.

Presumably the OP also wants to be near the graduate before and/or after the ceremony - as well as attend the ceremony itself.

You might find Metro North train service to be faster and more comfortable -- if a bit more expensive -- than the subway. Check the schedule to see if its convenient. Be prepared for crowds!

We really enjoyed staying at the Hotel Mulberry, about a mile from NYU.

We will be staying at The Marlton later in the year.

Just FYI: There are very few hotels "near" NYC, and you don't need to be within walking distance of the campus. Virtually any hotel in Manhattan will be relatively convenient to the NYU campus and the graduation.

Virtually every subway line in Manhattan serves either Union Square, West 4th, Broadway/8th, or Astor Place, the subway stations that surround the NYU "campus".

Find a hotel you can afford (what do you consider "mid-priced"? Mid-priced in NYC is approximately $225 to $250 per night. "Inexpensive" is anything under $150 (and there are almost no inexpensive hotels in Manhattan, though you do find occasional good deals).

You can also look at Long Island City, Queens hotels (I like the Country Inn & Suites there, which is sometimes as cheap as $125 per night, which is about as cheap as it gets in NYC). That hotel is about 20 minutes by subway from Union Square, and that's not bad.

There are a lot of mid-range hotels near Herald Square (34th Street) and a few on the Lower East Side (a HoJo on Allen St.). These would all be convenient to NYU. The Larchmont Hotel (which has tiny singles with shared baths) is within easy walking distance of the NYU campus. It's an inexpensive hotel but books up far in advance and is very popular with European visitors. The aforementioned Washington Square Hotel is moderate but was probably booked up months ago because it's next to the NYU campus.

Duh ... I mistyped. I meant to write "There are few hotels 'near' NYU." Meaning the campus around Washington Square. Sorry about that. I wish we had an "edit" function.

A second (and a third and a fourth and a fifth and a sixth, since I've stayed there at least that many times) for the Washington Square Hotel.
You couldn't be any closer to all of NYU, and it's a charming little European-feeling hotel in a wonderful, quiet, interesting neighborhood that is easily accessible to public transportation (as well as good coffee, if that's important to you!)
And you won't break the bank staying there either.
