hotel near LaGuardia
 

We arrive at LaGuardia at 10:30 pm and fly out of JFK at 2:30 the next day. We would like some hotel suggestions (need a shuttle to the hotel and breakfast included or a place we can walk to) and transportation options to JFK. Also, how much travel time should we allow to get to JFK?

Allow 30 minutes to get to JFK, but it can be a bit aster. You can't walk to any of the Laguardia hotels, but several offer shuttles. Then you can arrange for a car service to JFK the next day or take the cheaper shuttle bus from the airport.

Doug (or anyone else with ideas)---Please suggest the names of some hotels at LaGuardia that would pick us up with their shuttle. We did not plan to walk to the hotel. We would walk to breakfast(or hopefully could get it right there at the hotel). Thanks for your help...

The hotels near LaGuardia are sort of by the side of the highway - and not very pleasant. I would make sure you can eat in the hotel since there may not be walkable options.

Separately, your choices for getting to JFK the next day are to

1) organize a car service such as Carmel of Dial 7 in advance

2)take the hotel shuttle back to LGA and there get either a taxi or the shuttle bus to JFK

From LGA to JFK can take from 20 minutes (middle of the night to 45 minutes (midday with traffic) or more with construction or accidents. But the shuttle only goes every 30 minutes and will circle the various terminals at both airports. Depending on the number of people a taxi will be no more money and much faster.

If I were you, I'd take a cab or car service from LaGuardia the evening you arrive and stay in one of the hotels around the JFK Airport (room costs will be essentially the same as staying near LaGuardia). You can then use the hotel's free shuttle bus (almost all offer this service) to get to JFK for your flight.

As for what hotel - there are some 15 to 20 different hotels just off the JFK airport property - almost every major "chain" has something nearby. You'll find everything from a basic Holiday Inn Express to some of the more upscale chains. There actually are much nicer hotels at LaGuardia than at JFK. We have stayed at both the Marriott and the Courtyard near LaGuardia and they are perfectly typical and perfectly nice hotels. The Marriott is filled with tennis people during the US Open. Whether they have a shuttle is another matter, but they're literally across the highway from the airport, so you can just take a quick taxi ride if necessary.

Some of the LGA airport hotels are on a NUC public bus route that will take you to Rosevelt Avenue, where there are a lot of restaurants. However, while walkable, it's over a mile there. A public bus to Rosevelt avenue also serves gA directly but is not walkable to any of the hotels, which are all on the other side of he highway.

I also agree tat the LGA hotels are generally better than those rapt JFK. I think the Marriott and Courtyard are equally close.

Ditto to staying near LGA. Better hotels, more to do. There's NOTHING near JFK. If you want to do something in Manhattan for the morning, you could even stay in Long Island City.
