Hotel near La Guardia Airport

My wife and I will visit NY this May. It's our first time there.

However, our return flight will depart from La Guardia Airport in the morning, so we'll need hotel close to airport, meanwhile can access by subway from downtown Manhattan, budget hotel preferred.

Since we'll be staying in Midtown the previous night, but thought that'd be better to move closer to airport for the last night before taking our flight the next morning.

Appreciate all recommendations. Thanks a lot.

Check Hotwire and focus on the search for area "New York City--LGA." You should be able to get a decent place with a hotel shuttle to the airport, for about $100.

However, being in your situation, I found it easier to stay put in Manhattan the night before the flight out, and just get an early morning van shuttle to the airport-cost about $15. I dont know if that will save any $, but it definitely saved the time and hassle of moving to another hotel for just one night.

LGA is not a long trip from midtown - esp early in the am - so there's really no need to move to a hotel there for your last night. I would just stay in your Manhattan hotel rater than have to pack twice and trek out to a hotel in Queens on you last night in NYC.

I agree with nytraveler. At a very early hour LGA can be as little as 20 mins. taxi ride from Manhattan. The hotels closest to the airport aren't near a subway since the subway doesn't go to LGA. If it's only a 2 night visit, stay both nights in Manhattan. If you're staying longer and don't mind packing and moving hotels to get an extra 30 mins. sleep on the morning of your departure, the newish Hampton Inn LGA is one of the better options. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...rdia_Airport-E

There are not many sales posted for May right now but you might be interested in this one for the NY Hilton. http://www.travel-ticker.com/details...40pw0knr4u8dgn

Look for a hotel on the east side of Manhattan in the east 30s, and you will be about 20 minutes from LGA for the morning of your flight if you leave really early. Arrange a car service in advance to pick you up, and you will pay about $40. As everyone else has pointed out, there is absolutely no easy subway connection from LGA (everything requires a bus to the subway, so it's usually at least an hour into Manhattan by public transit).

Thanks a lot all Fodorites for your recommend. We're from Thailand and this is the first time for us in the Big Apple, so we're excited about this.
Actually I'll attend the seminar from May 3-5 (my office will pay for the hotel during this period), and will have 2-day trip to Niagara (Canada side). So we'll have to find hotel for our last night in NYC (May 7), which I have to pay by myself :-( before heading to LGA.
So I may be looking for hotel in Manhattan as everyone suggested. But whoa, hotel price in NYC is really high!

I don't know what you consider affordable but the Millenium UN Plaza which is on the east side and an easy spot from which to get in/out of Manhattan has a room for $188/night plus tax for the night of May 7. All rooms have views and the hotel has a somewhat rare enclosed rooftop swimming pool.

How are you traveling back and forth to Niagara Falls? I hope by plane. If you're flying back on May 6 into LGA or JFK airport, another option is to stay at the panamhotel.com which, while not right at LGA has free shuttle service (by van) and is much cheaper. It's also much more basic. You can get into Manhattan from there in about 30 mins. A compromise location would be the Country Inn & Suites in Long Island City. It's much closer to Manhattan but still in Queens so not as expensive.
