Hotel near Detroit Zoo

I know the zoo is actually located in Royal Oak and would like to know if anyone knows of a hotel near the zoo. Planning on taking two grandsons (4 and 1 1/2) and need a place fairly nearby zoo for naps. Any suggestions?

The Zoo is at 10 Mile and Woodward. The closest places would be in the Madison Heights/Troy area around 14 Mile and I-75, about 4 miles NE. There are several hotels along with the Oakland Mall and other shopping and restaurants.

There are also several along the Telegraph Road corridor in Southfield, about 3 miles west.

Could check out the Travelodge in Royal Oak, on Woodward Ave., just south of 13 Mile Road. A boss used to stay there and found it a clean, pleasant place, with the exception of some road noise due to being on Woodward. 3 miles from the Detroit Zoo. Straight shot south on Woodward - no expressway travel necessary. Stay in right lane after 11 Mile road and before you get to 10 Mile (or I696) just make a right turn directly into zoo. No problems. Have fun.

You might want to consider a hotel in the Birmingham area (just a short distance up Woodward Ave)....the Townsend is considered one of the best in the area...maybe a little pricey though. The Drury Inn and Suites in Troy is just a hop skip and a jump from the zoo...they always get great reviews on tripadvisor.com Not sure there are any hotels
I would stay at in the zoo area...I would head a little further north if you have young kids. The zoo is great...don't miss the monkeys/apes...they alot of fun!
