Hotel Monaco vs The Sofitel?

We are going to Chicago for the first time and hope to do the usual tourist activities and cath a Cubs game. Love the water so plan to take the boat tour. I know these hotels are in different areas. Which would you suggest?

We really like the Alegro, which is also a Kimpton hotel.

FYI, they have those two hotels in other cities, also, but since you say CHicago, I wouldn't bother reposting, I guess, with a state label.

Cannot compare but we were please with the Monaco a couple of years ago.

We lived in downtown Chicago and when we return, we always stay at the Sofitel. Perfect service, great location, quiet, on the small side, walkable to most tourist locations or public transport.

Have you stayed at either elsewhere?

I love Monacos- it's a very distinct look. Some family members hate them and prefer Sofitel. So I'd look at the room photos to see what attracts you.

Location wise, neither would be bad, but I like the location of Monaco better. More convenient for walking to the stuff I like.

I'd choose the sofitel, but depends more on your personality and what you want out of Chicago.

Either is well-located.
If you're someone who wants a more urban, bustling feel, I'd choose the Monaco. Feels business-traveler/urban, right off Wacker and on the river. The loop is outside your door, so it's a bit grittier, and will be more crowded on the sidewalks. You're between State STreet and Michigan Avenue, so lots more foot traffic.

The Sofitel is going to feel richer/more luxurious in the Gold Coast. The sidewalks will be less busy. YOu have more expensive boutiques and nice restaurants outside the door. There's like a Bentley car dealership a block away, so you'll see lots of pretentious cars on the sidewalk like that. You also have a really cute Argo Tea in a grassy park right outside. On Saturday morning, you have the Division street farmer's market, too. Personally, this would be my choice as you still have all the transportation options up to the Cubs game, down Michigan Avenue, over to the river for your boat tour, but will feel slightly more relaxed at the beginning/end of your day.

Either way, really good locations.

Depends more on your personality
