Hotel Locations on Vegas Strip
 

Hi all!
Husband will be attending a conference at the Rio All Suites Hotel, which seems to be connected with Harrahs. Would the Rio be near (ie., walking distance) either Bellagio or Venetian? If first-hand knowledge is unavailable, does anyone know a site on-line where I can see the hotel lay-out on the strip? Even though the walking distances would be deceiving, at least I could see what's where! Thanks in advance for any info.

The Rio is owned by Harrahs. Do not confuse it with the Harrahs property that is located on the strip. Rio is not within walking distance of anything on the strip. Last I was there they did have a free shuttle. Try: http://www.vegas.com/map.html for a map but please realize that distances are deceptive and properties are farther apart than they appear.

There is a shuttle that runs between the Rio & the strip constantly.

Just back this week from Vegas, shuttle from Rio to Harrahs every 1/2 hour or so. Have never stayed at either place but I agree you can't walk from Rio. The shuttle would take you to the strip very conveniently. From Harrahs you could easily walk the strip.

What exactly are you hoping to do while in Vegas?

What I was thinking, Lily, was that if I could finagle a tag-along, could we stay at a delux resort while he walked to the conference at the Rio! Seems like perhaps he could take the shuttle, at least at the end of the day. Maybe splurge on a cab in the mornings.
Luxury Link is showing week-days at Bellagio for $129 a night, and some people have gotten great prices for the Venetian at Priceline. Just plotting...

I've walked from the strip to the Rio several times. It is walkable - especially from the Bellagio - maybe 15-20 minutes time - perhaps about a mile. The Harrah's/Rio shuttle is located in the rear of both, and if you were to stay at the Bellagio, the walk from there to the Rio is not much further than to Harrah's for the shuttle. I wouldn't however, advise walking (the route acrosses I-15)late at night. The suggestion to look at Cheapovegas.com is a good one.

The Venetian seems to be next door to Harrahs. Would staying at the Venetian provide easy access to the Rio shuttle?

Funny thing about those huge Las Vegas resorts-- "next door" is a relative term. The Venetian is roughly one-half mile down Las Vegas Blvd from Harrah's. You could certainly walk to Harrah's to catch the shuttle, but why?

Just have your husband grab a cab to the Rio. No muss, no fuss, a little luxury to save time and hassle....

Yes, distance is very relative in LV.
While it's not a half mile from the Venetian's property edge to Harrah's, it's easy to walk a mile from a room inside Venetian to a room inside Harrah's. The casinos and their properties are so large that you have to factor in all the walking required just to get to the hotel driveway or lobby.
Personally, I'd stay at Bellagio or Venetian if you have the choice, since you'll then have easy access to lots more things to see and do (plus they're much nicer hotels to begin with. Harrah's is very bland).

In that case I agree stay at either hotel (have stayed at both and both are great choices) Hubby can cab it for $5 - $10 easy. Being a frequent traveler for business this to me would be much better than walking that far. Beleive it or not we walk alot already at those darn conferences! Anyway you can definitely go!!!! We go every year (every other year for a trade show) and we have a blast.

I agree with earlier posts about the location of the Rio. I stayed in LV Paris a year ago and was very pleased with the location (middle of strip). Rooms are nice, beautiful pool, good steak restaurant. However, the scale of hotels in LV is enormous and after two days of walking a mile just to go part of the way down the strip (and tired from being pregnant), we opted to rent a car. When we return to LV, we are going to rent a car and stay at a location such as Rio or old town LV. All casinos have free parking with no one watching to be sure that you are in their casino the entire time you are parked there. Just a thought. I went with recommendations to stay mid-strip and found it a beautiful view; however, it is not an obstacle to stay further out. Just know that taxis can get very expensive if you do not rent a car - spent $50 the second day before deciding to rent a car.

We always rent a car in Las Vegas, whether it be for 2 days or 7. We still do a lot of walking but it's easy to go downtown or away from the strip when you have a car. At night, you don't have to wait on cab lines outside of hotels.

We especially love breakfast at "Egg & I" and dinner at PF Chang in Summerlin.

I would disagree about the car rental....we normally never rent a car in Vegas. Cab lines have never been a long wait at the hotels on the strip for us. As for expensive, really even to go out to dinner off the strip, we've only paid $10-20 one way. We do rent a car if we want to drive to Hoover dam or the grand canyon but otherwise, it's such a hassle with traffic.

As for walking, we love walking the strip, so again I would opt for a central location. We often ride the bus for $2 to the end and walk our way back. There's just so much to see!

This has been our experience. Obviously we are all different.

Taxis are the way to go for me in Vegas.

A rental car is just another thing to worry about. A trip to Vegas should be worry free.
