Hotel info @ South Beach
Will be leaving on a cruise from Miami on 2/10. Hoping to find an ''inexpensive'' but nice hotel in South Beach for the night of the 2/9. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help!

Try Edison Hotel on South Beach. Hopefully they are still giving good rates like the one I got for a friend of mine last year. Remember, February is considered peak season here in FL.
Enjoy your cruise!

I think the name of the place we stayed at was called South Seas. I couldn't find the website for you, but they own two hotels, one called South Seas that is on the beach and another on Collins.

It was a serviceable hotel. Clean, but small rooms. We had a beautiful ocean view. There is a pool, beach access, tiki bar (where you can get a delicious lunch or drinks poolside). There was also complimentary breakfast (toast, bagels, cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc). I think we paid somewhere around $100 a night (but it was in April -- not high season).

Watch out for Marseilles Deco Beach Hotel on Collins. It's very rundown.

There is a group of boutique hotels located on in the heart of South Beach... you can find them on the net at http://www.southbeachgroup.com/ -- they looked great to me but were sold out when I was there last weekend!

If you feel like venturing out of the South Beach area for a night try the Biltmore - it's like a little slice of heaven... a grand luxury hotel in Coral Gables near the airport.

Whatever you do DO NOT stay at the Shelborne South Beach. It's a dump posing as a four star - priced at $185 US.

Thanks for all of your replies! You've all been very helpful...

Carol

Yikes - I just made reservations at the Shelborne and now hear that it's a dump. Any ideas, anyone, about a full service yet reasonable hotel in South Beach? I'm meeting my sister there and she likes the high rise type hotel rather than cute cozy ones.

We stayed at South Seas for $100 per night(Yes, South Seas is the correct name from the above post). It is a nice, clean hotel with a pool right on the beach at 17th street (I think). It is located slightly north the main section of South Beach within a 10 minute walk. It is next to Lincoln Avenue Mall which is worth a trip. Someone on this board recommended it and I was very satisfied with it. Nothing fancy but a nice hotel.
