Hotel in or near Union Square Area

Any suggestions of hotels in or near the Union Square area? I need to stay there as the friend I am visiting lives there.
Thanks!

What city?

The W Union Square is the nicest option but will be pricey. Union Square Inn is a budget option.

OK, I guess I could play a game and review other posts to see if koi has posted other questions about which city he's going to, but I'm guessing this Union Square in the one in San Francisco since it is more often a place people are looking for hotels near than the one in New York. Right?

I'd opt for the Grand Hyatt, lower budget would be The Florence.

You didn't mention price guidelines. If you're not on a tight budget, check out the Prescott Hotel on Post St. If you end up NOT staying there, you really should make a point of stopping in to their restaurant, "Postrio." It's a trip. Even if you just wander in for a drink, it is one fabulous spot to while away an hour or two.

Well the search box indicates koi selected New York as the area of interest so it might be Union Square in NY but it'd be nice not to have to guess..

Yes, it is New York City. I know there are very few places to stay in Union Square, so I needed some help.

Ooops. My mistake, But, koi, I hope you realize for the future that about 99% of us come to this site and don't click on a specific state to look at. We go to the general US forum where all posts are listed so we have no way of knowing which Union Square you meant. It will help in the future if you include the city and state just so we are all on the same wavelength. Just trying to be helpful for you in the future.

Meanwhile, the W is the only one I know and as mclaurie says it is the nicest, but pricey.

Chelsea wouldn't be too far from Union Square. There's a Hampton Inn in Chelsea that might work. Inn on 23 st also not too bad. You might be able to rent an apt. in that area if it's for more than a night or two.

furnishedquarters.com has apartments at 1 Union Square South which is a modern highrise. I don't know what the minimum stay is or what they'd charge/night but you could ask.
