Hotel in NYC

So we were bumped out of our reservation at The Plaza for next weekend.... any suggestion on an "impressive hotel". I'm thinking Mid-Town West so everything is in relative walking distance. A place that will impress young and old alike??

Just curious how your were "bumped"...The Plaza is a Fairmont Hotel...I've never heard of one of their properties doing anything untowardly to a an upcoming/prospective guest....

If you don't mind paying for the location of Central Park South, I'd go with either the Ritz-Carlton or The Essex House. Both are just a couple doors down from The Plaza.

The Plaza Athenee while not CPS or MW, is just a block from the Plaza also at the south east corner of Central Park.

How about the Excelsior? Great view from front windows of Nat. Hist Museum & Planetarium. Our 7 & 4-yr-old boys were treated with kindness and understanding by the staff, including complementary cookies and fruit at reception desk 24/7. Very "boutique" lobby, and comfortable rooms. To me, service is EVERYTHING, and it sounds like the Plaza falls short of that!!!

We love the Doubletree Suites at 47th St and 7th Ave. It's beautiful, elegant, and having a suite always makes me feel special.
