hotel in NO
With a great rate right now, is it worth it to pay a bit more and stay at Windsor Court versus Hotel Monteleone? Consensus seems to say that location of Hotel Monteleone is better. Any thoughts??

I like the location of the Monteleone better. The Widsor is across Canal street into the central business district, which is fine, but sort of generic-urban, not really what you come to New Orleans for. Given the choice, I would stay in the FQ.

I have stayed at Windsor Court 10/12 times probably and I love that hotel but like J Correa says it's not quite in the FQ but it's only a short walk across Canal and down Decatur to Jackson Square or back to the left to Bourbon/Royal.......And Restaurant August probably one of the citie's top restaurants in just across Tchoupitoulas from WC. I was in NO three weeks ago and Hotel Monteleone was busy and I think they have remodeled since Katrina but I like the WC better. Of course you may want to walk out the door to the FQ but it makes little difference to me.
Actually my favorite NO hotel is the Ritz Carlton. They had rates below $200/night when I was there last. Be sure and have lunch at Galatoire's and visit Emeril's, Clancy's, Brightsen's, Peristyle, Bayona and Delmonico. Good luck. |
We think it's hard to beat the Windsor Court. So IMO, yes, it's definitely worth a little bit more. I also agree with Ike that it's really a short walk from WC to the FQ so location isn't a disadvantage to us.

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate your insight!

I think that for me, since the parts of the FQ that I like best are several blocks into the FQ, being a couple blocks upriver from the FQ makes the location a bit inconvinient. I like to be right there were I want to be if possible, and since we don't tend to spend a lot of time in the hotel when on vacation, the location is more important than the hotel. But everyone is different. For others, the actual hotel is most important and they can compromise a bit on the location.
