HOTEL IN NEW ORLEANS MARCH 7-11, 2002
Hi,
I am looking at several options for a hotel room in New Orleans over the period March 7-11, 2002.
On a leisure trip I am usually looking for a clean room, nice bed, and a reasonable rate. Since I don't spend an incredible amount of time in my hotel anyway, why pay more.
Does anyone have feedback on the (1) Hampton Inn/Downtown, (2) the Sleep Inn on O'Keefe, or (3) the La Quinta on Camp St?
I am looking for something close or in the French Quarter. These all appear just off the quarter and close to the central business district.
How is the walk at night? Anything to worry about?
Thanks for any feedback

Of the three hotels mentioned, I think the Hampton and LaQuinta are the nicest and have the best locations. In fact, the LaQuinta is a highrise property unlike any other LaQuinta. The Sleep Inn would be my last choice.
Use the same "street smarts" as you would in any city and you'll be fine. The areas frequented by tourists are well-populated and patrolled by NOPD.

Just came back from NO. Stayed at the Ramada Inn Chateau Dupre on Decatur and Iberville. Comfortable, clean and in the French Quarter. Internet special of $76/night(includes safe fee and energy surcharge). I think the area within the FQ is better patrolled.

New Orleans is as safe as any other city. Use common sense. I go to the city 3-4 times a year. You might want to take a look at staying in the Quarter. Stayed many times at the Andrew Jackson on Royal Street for $80/night. Clean room, but no amenities. But who spends a lot of time in the hotel room when you are in New Orleans?
