Hotel in/near Williamsburg/Brooklyn
 

During my upcoming trip to NYC, I've got flights in/out from JFK and plan on spending most nights in Manhattan. However, on the last night of my trip, I've been ivited to an event in the Williamsburg area that could last pretty late into the night.

Its seems counterproductive to stay out late in W'burg, cab it back to midtown, then back again to JFK hours later, but I'm not familiar enough with NYC.

Should I consider staying at a JFK hotel the last night, or does anyone have a recommeneded (affordable) idea for Williamsburg?

Where are you staying in Manhattan. Late at night it could be a very quick ride from Brooklyn, especially if you are staying in lower manhattan. I don't think there are any hotels in Williamsburg. There is a Marriott in Brooklyn near the Brooklyn Bridge.

I'm staying at the Hudson Hotel in upper midtown. I'll look into that Marriott, thanks for the idea.

You could stay out at JFK but there are not really decent places out there. Add to that the logistics of getting luggage there before the event and it doesn't sound worthwhile. Or you'd need to bring luggage to the event. I don't think that sounds great.

But what you might want to do is stay somewhere downtown in Manhattan that would be closer to Brooklyn and an easier getaway to JFK. Do you know what subway line your event is near? You might want to look for a hotel near that line.

I'm not sure the Brooklyn Marriott makes sense b/c you can't often hail a cab in Brooklyn and I'm not sure how easy it would be to get from B'burgh to the Marriott.

Btw, there is usually zero traffic on a Sunday morning from Manhattan. Even if it's beach weather, to make an 8:30 am flight, you'd have to be there by 7:30 for a domestic flight or earlier for an int'l so you'be leaving pretty early (6:30) with no traffic problems.

If you are going to be out late the night before, then I would definitely cab it over to a JFK hotel after the party. If your flight is at 8:30am you have to be at the airport to check in at 7am anyway. There are some newer properties over there and most if not all would provide a free airline shuttle.

As far as a cab to the airport, either from Manhattan or Brooklyn, you can call a car service (Carmel, ALlstate, there are several others) and arrange for a hotel pickup. The cost isn't that much different from a regular cab.

Brooklyn is not very well supplied with hotels - and I'm not aware of any in Wiliansburgh.

I would take your luggage with you to the event and then get a car service (cabs in Brooklyn are practically impossible) to one of the JFK hotels that has a reliable free shuttle early in the AM. Do check tripadvisor.com to see what they say about shuttle reliability - I know there have been complaints about a couple of them.

Thanks for the replies- this is exactly the type of info I needed. I'll double check with my hosts that I can stash a bag at their loft before making a final decision.
