Hotel in Maui
We are trying to plan a trip to Hawaii for the week before Christmas this year. It will be our first trip to Hawaii and we are taking our 16 & 12 year old sons. What hotel would be best? We have no idea where to begin. We will probably be there 5 nights. We appreciate any help.

Michellef,
I had lots of luck with condo rentals by owners. If you search the web you should find many options. Jackie at:[email protected] was honest and helpful (she rented dates she couldn't personnally supply to me from the condo complex at owner rates and passed the savings on to me). There is a website underthe same name as in the email address. Condos/apartments are especially nice as you have a sense of "home" and can enjoy either donning out or making your own meals. Figure out waht area you want to be in and, if you don't find anything searching, ask again here. mahalo, Craig |
Search this forum using Kaanapali or Wailea as keywords to get an idea of what the two major hotel areas are like. Kaanapali generally has more going on than Wailea.

Try tripadvisor.com to check out hotels. I can guarantee your kids will love the Grand Wailea. The pool(s) is all I need to say about that.

Michellef - Don't want to burst your bubble, but if you don't book soon, there won't be a place worth staying at still available. You're planning to go at a very busy time of year. I usually book at least 6 months ahead when I'm going around the holiday season.
I'd suggest trying vrbo.com - you may be able to find something direct thru owner - I've used this site a lot & never been disappointed. If you don't necessarily want a hotel, a place I really like is Puamana. It's a gated townhome community just at the south edge of Lahaina on Maui (you didn't say which island you're going to). You'd have a full kitchen, washer & dryer & just about anything you could possibly need. There are 3 swimming pools & a tennis court. It's close enough to walk into Lahaina if you want & not have to deal with parking, but far enough away from the crowds to retreat to a nice peaceful evening. Good luck! |
Puamana has everything you could possibly need except a decent beach (or even one close by).
