Hotel in Manhattan

Hello, travelers...could you please recommend a good hotel in Manhattan or close to it..for a budget of 150 or 160 a night..two people.
thanks, D.

That budget is pretty low: you might find someplace using Priceline, depending on the time of year. Country Inn & Suites in Long Island City, Queens is often recommended as a cheaper alternative to Manhattan.

Where did you stay when you went last year? Did that hotel work out for you?

The only way to find a hotel that cheap in Manhattan is to make big compromises or find a deal or use Priceline. I'd start with the latter if you two can share one double bed. Otherwise, Long Island City is your best choice.

Hotels prices fluctuate dramatically by date based on supply and demand. When are you visiting? Also, discount websites like Prceline and Hotwire might yield something at that price but they're best for a few nights. Longer stays are more difficult. The verve, Vetiver and Fairfield Inn Queensboro bridge, all in Long sIland City are other ootions.

What mclaurie said. That budget is useful for Manhattan really only in Jan or Feb.

Are you willing to bid without knowing the hotel?

Are you willing to travel from Long Island City (you need to go back after dinner - there aren't a lot of services in this mixed use area)?

Or are you willing to up your budget - how much depends on your dates?

Hello

I just visited the youth Hostel on Amsterdam and 103 street. The people told me that the rooms are very clean. There is a locker in each room and there is a possibility of starying 2 people in a room. It has a small cafe and lots of resteraunts, a block from the subway with straigy line to Penn station (no. 1). I do not know anything about other youth hostels but this one is good. I visited a group from Sierra Club and they were older adults , who care about cleaness. you can check it out online. The area is nice

Good Luck

The Hosteling International has a very good reputation. Beds with lockers in dorm rooms are about $40 per night - but I believe they do have some private rooms for 2 or 4 people. Have no ides of the the cost or if they have private baths.
