Hotel in Hampton Roads area, Virginia

Our family is traveling to Wash D.C. in April and thinking of seeing the Hampton Roads area as well. We do NOT like real touristy areas.
Can someone suggest a place to stay, reasonably priced hotel and nice family restaurant.

Steve - I live in the Hampton Roads area, so I've never had the need to stay at any of the hotels, but if you don't like touristy areas, I would discourage you from staying in Virginia Beach. That being said, exactly what attractions/places do you plan to visit while in this area? There are all of the standard hotels, etc. in all of the surrounding cities - Norfolk, Chesapeake, etc. Where you plan to spend your sightseeing will and should determine where you stay. Post back here with more specifics and maybe I can help you. In the meantime, check out this website:

http://www.gohamptonraods.com

It's for "locals" and might help you a bit in to answer your questions.

The Chamberlin hotel in Hampton is a historic landmark, situated on the Army base of Fort Monroe, a very picturesque location. The hotel sits right on the Chesapeake Bay, has a small outdoor pool, family restaurant, gym, bar, etc. Located about 20 miles south of Williamsburg and 20 miles west of Virginia Beach waterfront. Downtown Norfolk has lots to see, recommend staying at Marriott Waterside, or the smaller, boutique hotel Hawthorn Hotel and Suites. Nauticus maritime museum, USS Wisconsin, and ferry ride over to Portsmouth make for a full day. Have fun. Seth
