Hotel in D.C.

I was able to get a great rate on a very nice hotel near the White House the first two nights I'll be in town, but the rate triples the third night so I'm going to move to a different hotel (not a big deal to me). Does anyone know anything about Hotel George? It looks really nice and kind of cool, and it is also located near Union Station. I'm not sure if it's an OK neighborhood, though, and if it's too far from the center of things (meaning the Mall/museums), etc. I'm debating if I should try to find another hotel close to the White House or if the Hotel George is a good/fun bet.

Hotel Lombardy, between 20th and 21st and Pennsylvania, four blocks form the White House and two from George Washington University might be worth a look.

just curious - I'm looking for hotels close to the mall as well.

Where did you find the "great deal"?

Thanks.

Syv,
On the Willard Inter-continental's website I was able to get a rate of $149 for Friday and Saturday nights. This is a better rate than I was able to find on discount travel websites. Not exactly cheap, but I really wanted to stay at the Willard since it's such a historic hotel and a great location. The rate Thursday night and Sunday night rose to $379 (or something like that). I'm assuming their occupancy must decline on the weekend - quite the opposite of most other towns.
Good luck.

Eveyone out there, please feel free to keep giving me feedback about where to stay my last night - and if you know anything about the Hotel George. Thanks!

The Hotel George is a fabulous boutique hotel. Definately on the luxurious side, IMO. They also have one of the best restaurants in the city - Bistro Bis. The neighborhood is fine and is a short walk to the Capitol and the Mall.

re. last night: By no means in the same league as the Willard, but the TABARD INN is a nice, quaint B&B just south of Dupont circle if you want to try a different area on your last night. You'll need to look at all 40 rooms on their website. Each room is priced individually.
