My daughter and I are going to Chicago in October. We like to stay in smaller boutique hotels (not to expensive)in the centre of the city. Any suggestions?

I've seen a site for Club Quarters at Wacker. Does anyone have any information on hotel and location?

Did you try Priceline? They have some boutique hotels on there (i.e., Hotel Burnham) that I'm sure you could get for a very good price. I've only been to Chicago a couple of times and always stayed in the big hotels--sorry I can't be of more help!

The hotels Priceline seems to have for boutique are the Hotel Burnham, Hotel Allegro and Hotel Monaco, all of which are technically in the loop (business district). I think the Hotel Monaco has the best location of the three at Wabash and Wacker, a few blocks from the start of the Michigan Avenue shopping area.

Hotel Burnham is at State and Washington, not a bad location for State Street shopping, visiting the Art Institute or going to the theater.

Hotel Allegro is the furthest away from things at Randolph and Wells but is also close to the theater district.

I haven't stayed in any of them since I live here but if you do a search here you should be able to find info on all three.

If you are coming the weekend of October 12, book as soon as possible as that is the weekend of the Chicago marathon and hotels book up quickly.

I believe Club Quarters is the renovated Executive Plaza hotel at Michigan and Wacker. Excellent location, but haven't been inside since it's been redone. Other boutique type hotels to consider in great locations: Hotel Monaco, Tremont Hotel. You may also be able to get good deals at some of the smaller well located hotels like Le Meridien, Hotel Sofitel, Swissotel, Hotel Intercontinental, House of Blues Hotel, Renaissance Hotel.

Consider the Swissotel on Wacker, but try to get a room on the Executive Level -- you get access to a top-floor club room for free drinks, breakfast and daily cocktail party.

We liked the hotel. Not too big, friendly staff, nice views, short walk to Michigan Ave. I don't think it's considered on of the cheaper places, but you might be able to find a good rate by hunting around on the Web.

I live here in Chicago and my two choices for great boutique hotels would be the Tremont or Hotel Burnham ... although they are in 2 completely different areas, so you'll need to decide which you'd rather stay in. They are within a short cab ride of each other ... but it's just a matter of what you want to be in walking distance of.

At the Tremont, you're right in the heart of the Gold Coast ... you can walk to tons of great restaurants, many along Rush Street - which is quite vibrant at night. Some good options are Gibson's Steakhouse, Hugo's, Mc Cormick & Schmick's, (both seafood) Carmine's (Italian) Tavern on Rush. You are also steps away from the greatest shopping in Chicago, on Oak Street and Michigan Ave. My husband and I stayed at the Tremont for the Millenium New Year and had an incredible night of dinner and dancing at Tavern on Rush with a group of friends.

As for the Burnham, it is a gorgeous, newly restored hotel on State Street, which puts you within walking distance of many of the theaters and right across the street from Chicago's Grand Dame of stores ... the original Marshall Field's. Over the past couple year's State Street has become more vibrant, with lots of new stores (there is also a Carson Pirie Scott and a brand new Sears) ... but the area is definitely not as "happening" at night. The Burnham has a lot of character though, and a great restaurant, and also puts you closer to the Art Institute, if you are interested in going there.
