I am traveling alone for first time to chicago. There are many nice deals I can get. What is nice hotel in good location? Anyone know about the Essex Inn,Intercontinental, Omni or Four Points Sheraton?Can you take tours from these hotels?

Also I am going in a couple weeks for 3 days and I would like to see as much of the city as possible.

If you search Chicago hotels here, you'll find tons of info on hotels. You probably want to stick to the River North/Mag Mile area if you've never been here before. When will you be here? That will dictate what tours are available.

I've stayed in the Essex and it was fine, but pretty far down Michigan Avenue for my tastes. It's a long walk or a bus ride to the Hancock Center, for example. There are lots of places closer to the river, which is where I'd look. Last March I got a good deal on the Hyatt on East Wacker through Hotwire. It was easily accessible to the Loop, Millennium Park, the Art Institute, and the Magnificent Mile.

I stayed at the Fitzpatrick and thought it was a great location. Could walk to most everything I wanted along Michigan Ave. or the river.

The Intercontinental is nice- sometimes have great deals too!

It is very convenient to most everyting on MI Ave

The Omni is great. Awesome location and wonderful staff.

I have been to Chitown alone several times, and I always stay at The Amalfi. It's off Mich. Ave and you can walk just about everywhere from there.

The Hotel and it's staff are outstanding. They have free cont. breakfast and drinks/snacks in the evening. There are many restaurants and shopping right there. And a 7/11 and Walgreen's open 24/7 right around the corner. Check it out and TA for reviews. I did stay at the Omni years ago. And it was very nice, in the heart of it all but really expensive. Breakfast was like 30.00 which I thought was way to steep.

The Intercontinental and Essex are very different. What’s your budget and what types of amenities do you want?

What sorts of activities are you planning-museum visits? Shopping? Theater? Concerts? Do you need a place that has reasonable parking nearby or will you be relying on public transit?
