Hotel in Chelsea
Has anyone stayed at the 4 Points Sheraton in Chelsea? What kind of neighborhood is it in? Is it safe for two seniors to stay in who will be walking around in the evening?
Thanks..... |
I don't believe the 4 Points Sheraton is in Chelsea - I believe its in Revere. Could you be thinking of the Wyndham? But in either case, neither area is suitable for two seniors who want to walk around in the evening. There's no place to walk to. The Sheraton is on the edge of a rather large strip mall and faces a very busy rotary and Route 1. The Wyndham is in a more industrial/office area (think old industrial)and also borders Rt. 1.

I guess we could go on with variations on what "Chelsea" could mean, but I'll just strike the "please be specific in your title" note and assume that you're talking NYC.
I stayed there last year. The hotel is okay. I describe it as a low-rent W. It's kind of stylish and the rooms are small with stylish furniture, but it's no W. That said, it's an okay place to stay. It's in the middle of a long, narrow, nonresidential block. I guess you could say that it's in the northern end of what most people would call Chelsea. If you're concerned about safety, don't be. There's not a whole lot right around there, but it's got decent subway access. I would suggest getting a room up higher or in the back to avoid truck noise from the street. |
EricH - wow did I blow it. Of course the poster means NYC - I'm actually relieved - oh, the visions I was having.

The area will be no problem for you. It is very safe and also convenient to subway and bus lines. You will have a Whole Foods market a few steps away; they have a great take-out selection for lunch, dinner, or snacks. There are many eating places of all kinds within a few blocks. The hotel is located in the heart of one of our antique districts so if you are into second-hand or vintage things you are in for a treat! You can also walk south to the West Village, south of 14th Street.

I take dance classes across the street from that hotel. There's lots of shopping (down 6th Ave), cheap eats and a few subway stops nearby. It's not a pretty area but it is 10x better than what it was 10 years ago. It is a safe area though a little quiet at night (after 9 or 10).
