HOTEL in Charleston with 17 MONTH old?
 

We want to take our 17 month old to Charleston for a long weekend in late spring/early summer and would love to find a hotel that offers a mini kitchen. I'd like to be able to pick up some groceries so that we wouldn't have to eat out 3 meals a day with her for the whole trip. Any toddler friendly hotels in Charleston that you would recommend?

How far away is the beach from downtown Charleston?

Is Savannah a doable day trip from Charleston?

The Doubletree. Excellent location and it is all suite with a kitchenette.

Make sure your stroller has hearty wheels. The sidewalks of Charleston are not concrete. They are flagstone, brick, cobblestone, and anything else that was used as building materials in 1850.

You'll have a blast!

PS. No matter what anyone tells you, do not stay at the Embassy Suites. Even thought it is downtown, it is a little too far away to be convenient.

Don't bother with Savannah for that week-end. Go to the aquarium--your daughter will enjoy it.
The beach is a little way away--over the rivers and all that. I am not even sure where there are public beaches (not to say they aren't there-I've just been to houses).

Beaches-
From downdown you could go to Isle of Palms beach which is about 20 minutes away. There is a county park there or you can take route 17 over the IOP connector (the same way to go to get to the countay park) and then make a left at the light you will go around a sharp right turn and there will be lots of public beach access that is less crowded than the county park. The park however has bathrooms and changing rooms.

If you head in the other direction you can go to Folly Beach, about 30 minutes from downtown. The easiest way from downtown is to take Calhoun street right to the James Island Connector (route 30, I think) and take a left on Folly road for about 10 minutes. There is a county park at the pier or Folly Beach county park as well.

Charleston is a great area! Enjoy

We stayed in a suite at Doubletree this summer with our 2.5 y/o and it worked out great. The aquarium is great - we spent half a day there and left before we saw everything.

We then moved on to a house at Isle of Palms but parking seemed pretty easy for those coming in for the day and the beaches are very family friendly - not crowded and small tide pools for little ones to play in.
