Hotel in Anchorage
which hotel around the airport for our late evening arrival (9:00pm) ? thank you !! |
Because the distance between the airport and downtown is relatively short, it rarely pays to limit your stay to that area.
Post a budget and needs, then folks here will offer lots of specific advice. |
We enjoyed the Springhill Suites.
|
I have to vote for the Midtown Springhill Suites also..large clean suite, accomadating staff, and deluxe continental breakfast...all 4-5 miles from th airport, an easy drive!
|
well, we arrive at 09:00pm and next morning we will have to pick up the car back again to the airport, so we were looking for a kind of accomodation around the airport, 2 dbl beds for us 4, preferebily with shuttle bus from/to the airport, otherwise it would be worth to take the Alamo car right upon arrival at 09:00pm or later if I have to drive somewhere ! |
Remember, in the summer 9pm is the middle of the day ;).
Like repete said, depends on your budget, where you're going in the car, degree of likely jet lag, etc. Anchorage is very easy to get around. All of the big chains maintain properties close to the airport, "midtown," or downtown. If it's during the summer, don't expect bargains anywhere. |
We stayed at the Fairfield Inn and they had a shuttle. We had rented a car so we didn't use the shuttle. They are on the road coming out of the airport about a mile. The hotel was new and was very comfortable. They included a small breakfast bar-mostly continental but did have hardboiled eggs-which I was glad to see since I have to eat protein. I highly recommend them.

hayjax, thanks for your reply, we are staying at the Fairfield Inn on Aug 1 and Aug 5. I'm glad to hear it's good! Do they have wireless access?
Fabio, we are getting in at 10 pm and we are still picking up our car then. Since we are returning it at 9 pm 10 days later, we don't save any money by picking it up at say 8 am the next morning. Plus this way we don't have to struggle with our luggage, twice, on a shuttle. |
Hi Birder You are right !! thank uou !! I checked with Alamo reservation system. I also will pick up the car for 11 days on aug 19th noon and have realized that taking it at 10pm of previous night 18th or next morning 19th it is the same rate !! So we will pick it up 18th evening saving time for the next morning not having to go back to airport for the car ! I will check with this Fairfield Inn and the Midtown Springhill Suites (by Marriot). Thank you, too, hayjax and all of you all !! |
IGNORE ALL OF THE OTHER REPLYS AND STAY AT THE MILLENIUM HOTEL (SPENARD ROAD)...IT'S AN ALASKAN HOTEL....
|
The last post is so funny. Fairfield inn and Springhill suites are fine hotels with accommodating staff. Millenium on the other hand seems a little worn out
|
by the way the problem has solved itself !! Both Midtown Springhill Suites and Fairfierld Inn are sold out on aug 18th !! I'll search further options..... |
"a little worn out"...whatever....the millenium IS a great hotel with true alaskan flair...the others are just basic hotels....you come to alaska to experience alaska and if you're going to be in anchorage, you may as well stay somewhere you can learn and explore....
|
If you want a "real" Alaskan hotel then there is no other than the Captain Cook, family owned since the early 1960's.
|
Thank you both Millennium and Captain Cook are really nice but a bit out of our budget, as they charge over $ 215 + tax ! We just need a place to rest after a full day Glacier Bay Cruise and a flight from Gustavus ! A standard room around the airport would be ok, until we proceede the following morning to Talkeetna |
I really liked the Voyager (downtown). $169 a nite. Clean, comfortable. Cab fare from Airport $12-$15 if that (but I think you said you got your car early). If you do stay at the Voyager – choose the pull out bed as it is way more comfortable than the main beds. (We stayed in a room with two full size queens and one pulled out from under a shelf).
If you stay at the Puffin Inn (near the airport) whatever you do – do not get an economy room at $100.00 a nite. I don’t know what their other rooms are like and I would probably give the place another shot (in a standard or deluxe) but I am not sure that is a recommendation. BTW: I ate breakfast at Gwinnes 2x. It was a good greasy spoon breakfast. They make great milkshakes too. Busy place though. |
Voyager has been one of the best deals in town for 15-20 years. Glad to hear the rec is still good.
|
Microtel Inn...I just checked, they have availability Aug. 18 & might be inline with your price requirements. This is a newer Microtel, very convenient to airport.
|
Hi I will check both Microtel and Voyager. In the meantime I got a good rate from Long House Alaskan Hotel with 2 queen beds and breakfast for all 4 of us. Does anybody know it ? |
Longhouse Hotel is an ok hotel that caters to the airport. As to the Voyager, I saw a rate for $169 per expedia and hotels.com, and a $190 rate for the Captain Cook, I would stay at the Captain Cook for an extra $21, they are across the street from each other. And its the best in Anchorage
