Hotel Help-Tempe, AZ
My girlfriend and I are off to AZ for a weekend of Spring Training games this March- this year, we'd like to stay in Tempe, within walking distance of ASU and the Mill Ave. area-
I found a AAA rate of $79/night at the Twin Palms Hotel-- anyone stayed there? is its location as good as it seems (I'm only vaguely familiar with the area)? Other recommendations (under $100/night)?
Many thanks!

My wife and I stayed there in August and it was a nice hotel. The rooms have french doors that open out into the courtyard and gives off great breezes at night.

Tempe wasn't really my type of town (college oriented but not as bohemian as you might think) but I can definitely see why others like it. I think you'll be happy with it, especially since the hotel is what you expect and walking distance to a wide variety of restaurants, bars, shops, etc.

We didn't stay there, but we saw it on our lasst trip to Phoenix-- looks nice from the outside, and it is, as you suspect in a great location.

Hope this helps.

We stayed at the Sheraton in Tempe because it was near the airport, and we had a late flight in.

It was very nice, and I ended up scoring an excellent rate ($46!!!) by going to the Phoenix Convention and Visitors' Bureau website. It was the biggest bargain of the trip.

I would definitely definitely definitely recommend the Tempe Mission Palms hotel over the Twin Palms. It is across the street from ASU on one side and Mill ave on the other, if that makes sense. May be more expensive, but a nicer place and a better location. Their phone number is 480-894-1400.

Doh! After the last post, I just realized that my wife and I stayed at the Tempe Mission Palms, not the Twin Palms. Disregard my comments above.

Jen, I think you already got a good deal for that time of year. Let me tell you about my strategy for visiting the Tempe/Scottsdale area. I usually book my first night at the Fairfield Inn on University Ave. It's close to the airport and I get a free shuttle (saving on cab or bus fare), I then a rental car from an off-airport location that night or the next morning, thus saving on special "airport use" taxes. If I want to got to the Mill Ave. area for dinner I just hop on a bus and it's a 15 minute ride.
The next night I stay a different hotel if I find a better deal. This isn't for everybody but it does save a few dollars. Another hotel I stayed in the area you're looking at is the Marriott Courtyard, not sure if it'll be under $100 in April. It's a block from Mill Ave. Have fun.
