Hotel Help Needed, 1st timer!
 

I am looking to spend a girl's weekend in mid-June and we want to be near Times Square and are looking to spend $250 to under $300 a night. Any information on the following that keep popping up on the travel sites would be helpful and greatly appreciated:
-Grand Hyatt
-The Warwick
-Hilton Garden Inn
-Novotel
-Flatotel
-Sheraton Manhattan

It looks like you're using a website that mostly has chain hotels. There are some smaller options that might be nicer. The Kimberly, the Affinia 50, the Shoreham, the Michelangelo and the Rihga Royal are all nice hotels that would suite your needs too and might cost less or provide more space. You might also consider booking something cancellable and checking travelzoo.com closer to your travel dates. They often have specials, particularly for weekend stays.

Of the ones you list, I think the Warwick or the Flatotel are the best in terms of location and hotel.

Forgot to mention, check quikbook.com They're mostly cancellable and good prices.

How many of you are there? If only two you might try Priceline to see what they have available (but go for 4* only - some 3* are not pleasant). If there are more than 2 and you need a suite or extra large room try affinia.com - moderate and well-thought of all suite hotels.

Also - any preference for area - midtown (east or west) or downtown or ?

Thank You for the information! I've been mostly checking Expedia, Orbitz, etc.. I will check the travelzoo and quikbook.It seems a little more difficult to confirm getting a room with two beds in it in NY!

There are two of us going and everyone has told us to stay close but not directly in Time Square area.

You're correct. Many NYC hotel rooms are small - and have 1 large bed or two twins. Rooms with two large beds are muchrarer.

As far as near times Square - many NYCers reco against this - since the area is so atypical for the city - but as long as you stay away from Times Square itself it's not bad.

By the way - the Grand Hyatt is on the east side (Times Square is the West side) and the Warwick is on the West side but quite a bit further north.

Can anyone share any thoughts on location or how nice either The Dylan or Kimberly hotels are?

The Dylan is a "hip" hotel with very modern, trendy decor (sometimes at the expense of function)

while the Kimberly is much more traditional. You'll get more comfort and space at the Kimberly (they have suites) and it's a perfect location for midtown shopping. The Dylan is closer to Times Square.

You might look at the Casablanca, the Elysee and the Library. These are all owned by the same co. They're small boutique hotels, but with nice service and freebies (like afternoon wine, coffee and pastry in the morning etc.) The Casablanca is quite near Times Square but not right in it. The Library and Elysee are both on the east side on or near Madison Ave.

Thank You! I did check out the other small hotels you listed that are owned by the same company and they either didn't have availability or the prices were higher. The Kimberly is sounding like a good choice price and size wise!

Stayed with my wife and 2 kids at Travel Inn in 2001. Accomodations OK for the price. Has free parking. Pool was pretty dirty. Looks like it might now be part of WooGo (search this site) and that's not good. We have also stayed at Embassy Suites in Battery Park City which offers free breakfast. The meal is so extensive that you only need one more meal in the day. Factor that in to your cost/value analysis.
