Hotel help Los Angeles

I am taking my mom out to LA in January and have narrowed it down to three hotels...either the Residence Inn, Beverly Hills, the Elan Modern or the Luxe Summit Bel Air. All are the same price more or less...but which is the most comfortable and somewhat plush? My mom would like a nice hotel on a budget...and which would be the quietest....in a good location? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi. I've never stayed at any of these hotels but the Luxe Summit is right next to a major highway. Plus, when I drove by the other day they were doing construction outside of it. I'm not sure if the construction will be done by January, or if they have sound proof windows, but there is an awful lot of traffic in that area.

The Residence Inn is probably the quietest, since the Elan is across from a major mall and the Luxe is by the highway.
www.sunsetplazahotel.com is often $99 if you've purchased an Entertainment Card membership, and is nicer than the other three.

Not familiar w/ the Residence Inn. The Elan is a Schraeger-type knock-off boutique hotel. Zero perks (no restaurant, no pool, etc.) but very nice and I find it to be in a quiet, residential neighborhood. Yes, it's near the Beverly Center, but aren't most hotels on major streets?? You can walk to lots of stuff, as well (shopping, eating, kinkos, etc.)

As for the Chateau Marmont, while the public areas are gorgeous, the rooms are super dingy and need re-doing. I'd never recommend it as a "splurge".

Check out Maison 140, on Lasky Drive in Beverly Hills. A little French hotel. Society women often bunk there while recooperating from the plastic surgery center next door. Super quiet. I can't imagine it's that pricey.

Is the Luxe Summit actually in Bel Air? I have never seen a hotel in Bel Air proper that was close to anything except homes. If it is the "Bel Air" part of that you are looking forward to, best find out where it really is located. The Lowes in Santa Monica is nice and great location.

I wouldn't rush to book the Luxe Summit either. It is not located convenient to anything. It is a good walk on a busy street with no sidewalks to get to the closest restaurant or store.
I assume you will have a car, then check out other choices. The residence inn is somewhat well located, not really familiar with the Elan. In any case I would recomend a getting a car. Also look into the Double Tree on Wilshire Blvd in Westwood.

I stayed in the Elan not too long ago and we really liked it. Great location... we could walk to Beverly Center and Blockbuster (VCR in room)
Melrose was a block away and it was super easy access by car to everything. Staff was great, good amenities, free b'fast... Our room was a little small for LA but functional. They also give you free appitizer coupons for PF Chang's across the street. We would stay there again. It should be less that 120.00/night
The Luxe is in an odd location but I think they are in the process of rennovation. Might be a good deal as the prices will probably go up. The Luxe in Bev Hills is a nice little place!

I can highly recommend the Renaissance Beverly Hills at the corner of Beverly Drive and Pico.

Stayed 4 nights there this past June and was very impressed. It is virtually in a residential area and is very quite at night. We had a "north facing" room and if you are above say the 6th floor you have a good view. On a non-smoggy day you can see the Hollywood sign.

Our room was very nicely decorated and quite European in feel. There is a restaurant on site (can't remember the name just now). On Pico just around the corner is a Starbucks, drycleaners, Ralphs grocery, etc., etc.

It is approx. a 10 min. walk to Rodeo Drive straight up Beverly. There are stores and coffee places (Peets, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf) on the way.

We paid $119 a night at that time.

My friend and I stayed at the Regent Beverly Wilshire, which we absolutely loved. The staff was really attentive and the room was beautiful. However, we did not have a view, and the pool area is tiny, but very attractive. Next time we will try the Peninsula. Good Luck!
