Hi, We are looking for a hotel around $100.00 per night. It is for 2 adults and we will have a car. It does not have to be on the beach just clean and in a safe area. Could someone make some suggestions? It will be for in October. Thanks

Thanks everyone. Some of the hotels we have looked at are Hawthorne Suites, Hampton Inn Sea World, Hampton Inn Kearney Mesa, Hampton Inn Del Mar, Holiday Inn Mira Mesa. If anyone knows anything about these hotels let me know and I will check the sites that was mentioned above.

Understand that if you bid on a hotel using either hotwire or priceline they are NOT refundable.

And if you are bidding, you aren't guaranteed that you will get the Westin or any other specific hotel, it is the luck of the draw.

My husband's job takes us to San Diego once a year and we visit on our own with the same frequency.

Make sure you check out parking rates for San Diego hotel guests. If you decide to take a chance on street parking meters, be warned; Rita Meter Maid is VERY devoted to her job!

My darling husband hates paying for hotel parking (eats into the per diem) and grumbled accordingly when I told him of the $30.00 daily rate at the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter where we were staying. AND he explicitly told me that I better not get a parking ticket. Odd, I'd never had one before and wondered why he'd think I'd be so daft.

I decided to forgo the $30.00 parking fee on checkout day and took the kiosk attendant's word (without verifying)that I could park for 15 minutes per quarter. $1.00 an hour- not bad. After hurriedly dumping three dollars into the meter, I was confident I was covered for almost 3 hours.

2 hours and 45 minutes later, I was walking to the car with my overnight bag and saw the meter reader - ticket beater driving away from my car and a nice little piece of paper tucked under the wiper blade, flapping in the breeze. The meter had been expired two minutes! Was she waiting for it to expire or what?!

I was furious at myself because I didn't double check the time and was more furious at her for doing her job. So, like a crazy woman with burning ears, I chased her down and pleaded my case for fear of spousal finger wagging and a few choice expletives on my behalf. She couldn't do anything once the deed was done because it was automated in her handy dandy handheld computer. I suspected she and the kiosk guard had a deal worked out. :-?

Handsome Hubby was on a ship where cell phone reception was sparse and the kids and I had to get home so I couldn't tell him the bad news right away. I was too much of a coward to text it fearing he would call me a coward for texting. Besides, I can't flash the "Honey, please don't be mad at me" smile via text.:-*

Well, I tucked that ticket in my glove box and for me, it's outta sight, outta mind. That is, until my husband pulled the San Diego Courthouse letter out of the mailbox almost a month later! That's when the spit hit the fan.

Thanks to your thread, I have a list of San Diego Hotel reviews but didn't post it here because you posted your confirmed accommodations before I was finished with my list.
We haven't stayed at any of the places you mentioned. I saved the list though.


Have you decided what you'll be doing when you get to San Diego?

Hampton Inn Sea World, or Hawhorne Suites. Either are in decent neighborhoods..

Hampton Inn is in Point Loma: centrally located I-5 & I-8 and close to airport and Point Loma nice neighborhood. Souplantation is nearby inexpensive all you can eat upgrade Soup & Salad Bar with Breakfast on Sundays, In & Out Burger, HAwaiian Place. I can help w/other nice inexpensive restaurants, places to visit as I live in the area.

Hawthorne Suites is East alittle of Point Loma on I-8 in Mission Valley" sort of a yuppy mixed hotel residential area: not much to look at but lots of inexpensive restaurants like Corner Bakery, Costco for shopping if you want meals in the room...of the 2, personally I would choose HAmpton Inn Point Loma. Don't think there will be parking fee problems either place.

Kearney Mesa and Mira Mesa aren't the best locations. I wouldn't stay there.

I would recommend Coronado - there are a number of cheaper hotels (just google and check some out) and Coronado is a wonderful vacation spot on it's own. It has one of the best beaches in the world, a beautiful little downtown area, and nice parks, a great community center for pool swimming, and Glorietta Bay for sailing and golfing.

It is just over the bridge (about a 5 minute drive) into downtown San Diego or another 10 minute drive to Balboa Park and the SD Zoo area.

We were in Coronado recently, having been to the Del before, but never in the downtown area, and I have to agree with nanabee. It's a really pleasant, low-key area, and its proximity to downtown makes it a very attractive option.
