Hotel help for S.Oregon coast and N.Calif.coast

Can I tap into the expertise of this Forum for hotel help? We are traveling fairly soon -- starting August 16th -- with our 6 and 11 year old. Our budget is $100/night, but I have to admit that my tastes typically run higher. (While I have stayed in some 2-star jewels, I don't want to stay in the ones with grungy bathrooms or saggy mattresses, and I am terrified of all bugs.) We are flying into SFO, and here is our tentative itinerary:
Day 1 - Marin Suites (reserved)-- visting friends in Tiburon, CA.
Day 2 -- drive to Scotia, hike in the Redwoods, and stay at Scotia Inn (reserved)
Day 3 -- tour lumber mill in Scotia, drive to Ferndale for a brief stop to see Victorians, then overnight in Eureka. Lodging suggestions?
Day 4-- visit Roosevelt park, drive up to Gold Beach. Lodging suggestions? Don't think we can afford Tu Tun Tun, unless they take American Express points... Sand and Surf looks like a great location, but what is it like inside? Anything in between in terms of luxury-level?
Day 5 -- jet boats, remain in Gold Beach
Day 6 -- to Florence -- lodging suggestions?
Day 7 --visit Sea Lion caves, remain in Florence
Day 8 -- head back south, overnight in Mendicino perhaps. Lodging suggestions?
Day 9-11 San Francisco -- used Priceline at suggestion of this Forum (thanks--great idea!!) to book 4* hotel in Union Square for $100 -- Prescott Hotel.
Day 12 -- depart for home (Washington, DC.)
Thanks in advance!
Diane

I can only help you for the end of your trip. It will be difficult to find a place in Mendocino for less than $100/night. When we were recently in the area, we stayed at the Surf and Sun Lodge in Ft. Bragg. It was very clean and in a GREAT location, right on the coast! Your kids will love it.

If you stay in Ft. Bragg, I would highly recommend breakfast at Eggheads Restaurant, and lunch or dinner at the North Coast Brewing Co.

I have also heard wonderful things about the Prescott Hotel in SF!

There is this interesting place right by Eureka, in Samoa, called the Samoa Airport B&B. They have rates in your range. It's actually on a 1940's base and people fly their planes right up to the hotel.

When my sister and I were about the same age as your children, my parents took us to a great place for dinner called The Samoa Cookhouse. It's been in operation since the late 1800's and originally served area millworkers. They keep to the traditional way of serving their customers: family-style with big portions at long wooden tables with benches. It's one of my favorite childhood memories!

Here is a link to the B&B I mentioned:

We found a cute little place called the Sand N' Sea in Gold Beach a couple of years ago. Very affordable, and located directly on the ocean.

Get the oceanview room, there's also a great little path from the hotel to walk down to the beach. A small indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi and continental breakfast are included with the room.

Not the Tu Tu Tun Lodge, but a great little place. They have a website, I don't recall what it is, just google up the property if you're interested! ***kim***

Thanks for the ideas....The Samoa Airport B&B looks fascinating. My 6-year-old son wants to be a pilot, so he is particularly keen on staying there! And we will definitely try the Samoa Cookhouse; I had read about it on earlier Forums and forgot about it until now. I'm about to check out Ft. Bragg.
I've also re-read some of the other Oregon postings and am now thinking we should stay in Newport over Florence. Any thoughts on that?
We might have to exceed our budget some nights (as we are doing in Scotia).
Thanks again,
Diane

Update -- I booked both the Sand'N Sea in Gold Beach, Oregon and the Surf and Sun in Fort Bragg! Was all set to book the Samoa B&B, but when I called I was told they were going to charge me for 2 rooms with my children, so it was no longer such a good deal. Am still looking for a Eureka place.... Thanks for all your help.
