Hotel for Wrigley Field/Chicago
Going to see Buffet at Wrigley Field over Labor Day. Anyone recommend decent, not-too-expensive Chicago hotel? Doing this a little last minute, and don't know if we'll find any within walking distance. Anybody stay at Hampton Inn and Suites Chicago Downtown or Best Western Inn of Chicago??? Don't mind cabs. Just how far away is it? Any info, thanks.

Any of the downtown hotels would be fine. You can probably get a good price if you bid on Priceline or Hotwire.
Wrigley Field is about 4 miles north of downtown. You can get there via the red line subway/L. Catch it either at Chicago/State or Grand/State and get off at the Addison station. You can see the stadium from the station. It costs $1.75 per trip. All-day passes are available. Check www.transitchicago.com for fare info and a trip planner. |
If you want to be closer to the ballpark, you could try the Days Inn Lincoln Park. You could (almost) walk there--definitely if you like to walk. Otherwise it's a five minute bus ride up Clark Street.
Here's the TripAdvisor link: http://chicago-hotels.tripadvisor.co..._Illinois.html They might be booked, though. You could also try a B&B. Might be more likely. PC |
Days Inn on Diversey is a little closer than Lincoln Park, only a mile. Other hotels very close to Wrigley are Best Western Hawthorne Terrace and Willows Hotel or Majestic Hotel (cityinns.com). The same company also runs City Suites which can be ok, but is very close to the L tracks. I've had friends who were distracted by the noise and others who liked it.

Hobbes16, the Best Western Hawthorne Terrace would be the one, I'd recommend; although I don't know how lucky you'd be getting a reservation at this stage--but you never know.
Since the Addison stop of the Red Line is immediately across Sheffield from Wrigley Field, any hotel accessible to it would be fine. |
