hotel for retired army

My husband is a 20 year Army veteran & we will be travelling to DC for a pleasure trip. Wondering if there are any locations where we might get a good 'retired military' rate on a hotel. Planning on a Fall 2007 trip [slower season] & would like to keep the nightly rate at or under $100 if possible, but we don't want to be at a 1 star hotel.

Thanks.

Marines Memorial Club in San Francisco.
I cannot think of those in DC, so sorry.

I would narrow it down to an area and call a couple of the hotels directly. You can always start with the 800 numbers for central reservations but a call to the hotel will get you better results.

Don't take no, ask to speak to a supervisor. Hopefully, they'll help you out.

I don't know of a specific place but as GoTravel suggests I've always checked with specific hotels we're intersted in staying to see if they offer a military discount.

In lieu of that, this site may help you...

I think cgkpt is looking for a regualar hotel that offers retired military discounts, rather than a military hotel. Anyway, as others have said, call the hotels that you are interested in and ask. I have seen military/government discounts listed when I look on line sometimes. I'd suggest checking both the Choice Hotels and Best Western chains.

Lodging near and on US Military Bases
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to http://military-hotels.us/ You can use this guide to learn about hotels, motels, lodges, inns, and resorts near US military bases.

I think this site covers all bases. The DC area is almost one big Military Base. Probably a dozen or more major installations within fifty mile of the place.

We are also retired military and have never heard of a discount for that status in civilian hotels/motels. There are several military bases in the area, and while I have never researched travel in the DC area (I retired rather than be sent back there), we have stayed in Visiting Officer's Quarters at a number of installations west of the Rockies.

Googling "military living" will get you to an informative web site.

You can get military rates at hotels, obviously, and there are many hotels which do not restrict those rates to AD personnel only.

The problem with getting the military rate in the Washington, DC Metro area is that the per diem rate for lodging is $188 -- which is way above your budget.

If you are staying a Fri/Sat night, the rates drop considerably. For example, the Holiday Inn at Crystal City is $112 on Fri/Sat, is $188 (Gov't Rate) Sun thru Thurs, and is $238 Sun thru Thurs if you don't get the Gov't Rate.

I would recommend checking on Priceline to see if you can get a 3 Star at a reasonable price.

You'll almost certainly do better using Priceline than limiting yourself to retired-military rates.

I just looked at Choice Hotels for Wash DC, and they did have Government/ Military rates. Though the AAA, Senior and Internet rates were lower. Go figure, LOL.
