Hotel for Melbourne FL near beach

We will be going to Melbourne FL for Spring break. We would like to stay near the beach so my sons can surf. Any recommendations will be welcome. We are a family of 5 and would like at least a 3***. Something nice but doesn't have to be the Ritz.

My regular is the Doubletree Melbourne Beach. Directly on the beach. All rooms ocean view. Plenty of surfers out the back door. 19 miles exactly to Sebastian Inlet rated "best surfing on the east coast"

Next is the Hilton Beachside. Costs a bit more than Doubletree. Has a nice pool. Many rooms have a beach view, but some are on the highway. Be particular about what you are getting on check in.

Between the two is Holiday Inn Crown Plaza. It is totally acceptable. If the price is best, go for the Holiday Inn.

This Indiatlantic to Indian Harbor area has many family friendly restaurants. It's a good place for a beach stop on spring break.

Sebastian Inlet Marina has great kayaking on the intercoastal side of the state park.

bamababe, welcome to my neck of the woods! I agree with stumpworks that the Doubletree would be my first choice.

Hi bama, I've been going to that area regularly since 1976 when my parents retired there. They are both gone now, but I still have a sister in Satellite Beach (by the way, go up there and have a Blue Moon and a fish taco at the place that has a huge mural of Bob Marley on the side of the building; it is right on A1A.)

The standard question for a family of 5 is 'have you considered a condo?" There are condos up and down the beach in that area and I've stayed in one very close to Indialantic (walking distance) and it was great. Room to spread out a bit, but very comfortable. I think I used VRBO.

Hi Suki, we did think about a house or condo. We'll only be there 2-3 nights but I guess it would be worth a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

I will make a point of eating there! It sounds fun and my 14 yo has discovered Marley in the past year!

I just saw this in today's Washington Post and think it is relevant to your plans: http://tinyurl.com/yzehz4y
