Hotel for family in French Quarter

We're going to be in NO this summer with our boys, aged 22, 20, and 17. It would be really nice if we could get away with only two rooms in the French Quarter - the boys are pretty amenable to all being stuffed in one room occasionally. Any suggestions as to where to stay?

We stayed at the Place d'Armes a couple years ago and there were quite a few families staying there. There are several types of rooms, so I bet you can find something that works for you.

We stayed at the Quarter House several years ago and it was very nice. Full kitchen, washing machine and dryer, huge dining room, etc., etc. It's a timeshare in the French Quarter.

Thanks - I will check these out.

I second the Quarterhouse. My family of 4 stayed there a few years ago and we loved it! It was beautifully decorated and very spacious. It was so nice to have our own kitchen and laundry facilities.

They all look good! Place d"Armes does not mention parking - I e-mailed them, but in case they are slow getting back to me - does anyone know what their parking - I'm blank - facilities (?) are?

The Place d'Armes has valet parking. I think they have some spots on site and then if there are more cars, they have some off-site as well.

Wow- I e-mailed them to ask - $28 a day for parking. The rates were looking really good until then.

I think you're going to find most hotels charge around $25.00 a day for parking so that cost really isn't out of the park. I take it you're driving to NOLA - if not, you really don't need a car if you stay in the Quarter.

november_moon Feb 19th, 2010 12:10 PM

Yep - $28 per day for parking seems pretty standard for New Orleans. Just be glad you aren't trying to park a car in San Francisco :)

SusanCS Feb 19th, 2010 01:32 PM

We paid $35 a day several years ago at the Royal Sonesta.

bellhouse Feb 20th, 2010 04:49 PM

OK - now that I go back and look, that is the norm. It's been so long since we've been to NO, and even longer since we drove there, that I didn't think about parking! The last visit by car was when I was pregnant with our almost 20 year old! Back then we lived in Jackson, MS, and going to NO was an annual or semi-annual event - then we moved, had more kids, etc. I'm REALLY

how did that happen? anyway....looking forward to this trip!

I just read something on another site that said the street that the Quarter House is on also has - I don't remember exactly what - maybe porno and smoke shops and the person didn't like the street at all. Does anyone know if this person was over-reacting? A kitchen would be nice - if only to store leftovers until we we could finish them!

Laurie Feb 21st, 2010 12:52 PM

I don't remember seeing anything inappropriate on that street. We are going to be in New Orleans in 4 weeks. I will walk down the street and look.

Bourbon Street has a lot of shops that sell items that have nasty language and sexual innuendos, but I don't recall seeing anything like that on Chartres Street.

The Quarter House was a beautiful property when we stayed there about 8 years ago.

bellhouse Feb 22nd, 2010 04:24 AM

Thanks, Laurie. Bourbon Street trash wouldn't keep me from staying there - this post made it sound like the red light district of Amsterdam - which didn't sound accurate.

ccolor Feb 22nd, 2010 04:41 AM

We always stay in a hotel right on Bourbon Street because people-watching is part of the fun of the city for us. I wouldn't want to stay anyplace else, but that's definitely a personal preference!
