Hotel for a week in DC

I'm looking for suggestions for a relatively inexpensive hotel (under $200/night) for my upcoming 1-week visit to Washington, DC. I have no problem with staying outside the city as long as the hotel is close to a Metro station. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I recommend St Gregory...see link below.

This hotel is within your price range and is located near 3 metro stops. The nightlife immediately around the hotel is not exactly hopping (the area caters to businesses) but I think it would suit you well. We live in the DC 'burbs and spent the night at St Gregory in December after a meal nearby (at Galileo)...we will return again in October for a stay after a concert. The room wasn't fancy, but it was very large and clean with a nice bathroom. Our room also had a fully stocked mini kitchen -- this could be useful for you if you're staying a week.

David Greggory directly across the street is great for happy hour and/or dinner. There are lots of other restaurants within walking distance and I would not hesitate to walk around in that area after dark.

Rates can double or triple depending on when you visit. Tell us when are you coming and it will be easier to suggest places under $200/night that you will like.

Thank you for your input. I'll be in DC during the last week of July.

kurtchan,

Go to www.capitolreservations.com - a discount booking service for DC hotels. You will probably need to use the website to get a rate within your budget but it can't hurt to also contact them directly.

I can recommend the following places - all very well located and within your budget:

In order of preference...

1st - Hilton Embassy Row

2nd - Residence Inn Marriott Dupont Circle

3rd - Hilton Garden Inn Franklin Square

4th - Holday Inn ON THE HILL (415 New Jersey Ave, NW)

Don't consider any places without a NW address, except maybe Capitol Hill Suites.

Two places not on the discount website mentioned above but also worth a look are:

1) www.tabardinn.com

2) www.capitolhillsuites.com

Check www.biddingfortravel.com and bid on Priceline. My brother just went to DC and got a 4 star hotel for $85 a night.
