Hotel Feedback New Orleans
Hi. We're going to New Orleans in April and
will be staying at the Historic French Market Inn. Although I've been to New Orleans 5 times before, I've never seen or heard of this hotel until just recently.
Has anyone stayed there, and if so, how was it? I'm particularly interested in the rooms.
They appeared kind of small from a picture on the internet. Another picture depicted a charming room with yellow walls. Do the rooms have refrigerators and coffee makers.
Should I change my reservation to another hotel, or will I like it? I'm not too fussy
Just want a nice clean room

This hotel may have the worst reputation of any hotel in New Orleans!! Try doing a search of this board for additional information.

Hi Dana! This hotel came up before, and my reply is probably in the archives. I was pretty surprised at Susan's comment as after a room change we found it delightful, but then again, it was 7 years ago......

Dana, this hotel indeed comes up often as one of the city's worst. It's nowhere near the French Market so I don't even get the name!

Complaints include serious overbooking (and then moving you to "sister" properties away from the French Quarter), poor service and shabby rooms. I'd steer clear of it!

You have plenty of time to rebook...that's the good news! Enjoy your trip.

Dana,

While our first visit to NOLA is not 'til May, a good friend leaves tomorrow for French Market Inn. She does not have access to internet. Since I had read some 'relocation' horror stories on another travel board re: French Market Inn, I insisted she start phoning 2 weeks ago to double check. Sure enough, they would not guarantee her that the 2 rooms she booked would be at the property in question. Since NOLA is 'booked', she did not cancel. She has phoned Inn every day for 2 wks. and has been told that they will stay at the Inn. She will return next week. I can post a brief report if you think this would help.

Thank you so much everyone for your responses to my question! I had NO idea how many responses that I'd get, but you know, I've had a VERY FUNNY FEELING since I booked with French market inn, as I've not even received a confirmation letter and called them yesterday requesting one. They quoted my $79.95 per night, and that seems too good to be true, and my suspicions were aroused when I found one web-site depicting a nice yellow fresh pretty room, and another web-site depicting cramped quarters with brick walls, so I will be changing my location as soon as I get done with this reply. Once again,
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Dana--
You were helpful for my Hawaii issue, so one good turn deserves another. I lived in Baton Rouge for a year and spent a ton of weekends overnight in New Orleans. I stay at the Fairmont, which, at the time (2 years ago) was $100/night. SInce you are post-Mardi Gras/pre-Jazz Fest your rates should be reasonable. Its not right in the quarter, but easy walking distance, and you are spared the noise till all hours as well as the early morning noxious odors (really gross) I would STRONGLY recommend a breakfast place called Petunia's. Beware, if it bothers you for any reason, it is a gay-owned, gay-staffed establishment. The food is OUT OF THIS WORLD, Pain Perdu (Lost BRead) is french toast of your dreams. also crawfish etouffe omlette was killer. Enjoy.

The French Market Inn is a poor choice. We go to New Orleans every 2-3 months and always stay at the Bienville House. Lots of New Orleans charm, great location in the French Quarter, owned by the Monteleone people which is also a fabulous choice, actually the best choice if you like the quitessential new orleans hotel old world charm kind of thing. Even if you don't stay there, check out the lobby and the revolving bar where many a post WWII couples rendezvoused. Lots of other really good choices, The French Quarter Inn not being one of them. The De La Poste was NOT the "W" last time I was there and is nice, great location. The Provincial also has a great location and movie stars stay there when filming in New Orleans (Julia Roberts, Sam Shepherd, Pelican Brief) If you find a cheap hotel in the French Quarter, you don't want to stay there!

Thanks, Joe. We've got our reservation
for Provincial. Got it for $139 a night
(AAA discount) for mid-April, and they
sent me a confirmation and everything,
unlike that French Market Inn.
We're even staying in a Premium King room for that rate. They assured me that
it would have a decent view, because I
specifically requested a courtyard view with french doors, or something very similar, and they said that that was considered a "Premium King/Queen."
I've never checked out Monteleone even
though it gets really positive reviews from everyone.

Elizabeth, thank you too! How are the
Hawaii plans coming along?
