Hotel Del Coronado question
 

Just booked a "Victorian Suite" at the Hotel Del Coronado for a 6 night stay in April. (There is a nice deal for 5 nights for the price of 3 right now.) We are a family of 5, including children ages 8, 6, and 2, so space is at a premium.

Since these rooms are in the Victorian part of the hotel, I gather there is a lot of variability in the room quality. Has anyone had experience with this class of room at the Del, or recommendations of specific rooms it might be good to request?

I am wondering, knowing the Del as I do, if the term "Victorian" is a euphemism (being bery charitable with that term) for unrenovated, dark as it was during "Some Like It Hot" or otherwise. Mainly topping this for you; we've had good luck with the food at the Del but have always stayed elsewhere.

Their site is clear that the Victorian suites are in the original (Victorian) building -- I don't think it's fair to infer that that means dark and unrenovated (at least not all of the rooms). In fact, the one other time I stayed at the Del was in the original building and it was wonderful -- but that was not a suite (and we didn't have young kids in tow).

But as with most older hotels there can be a lot of variation in quality -- I figure if I can make a specific request, I improve the odds of ending up in a "good" room that will work well for our family. Anyone have a great room there, worth requesting?

We have stayed in the Victorian section. Our room was very nice and updated with a flat screen TV. This is a beautiful oceanfront resort with many nice amenities. ***kim*** ((*))

I agree, Kimamom - thanks. Based on my 1 stay there, the Del is one of my all time favorite hotels. Still hoping for some specific suite recommendations though.....
