Hotel Del Cornoado or Glorietta Bay Inn on Coronado Island?

Hi! My husband and I are staying on Coronado Island in June for three nights. We noticed the prices at Glorietta Bay and Hotel Del Coronado are fairly comparable. My experience with large, luxury hotels is the property and amenities are great, but the rooms are fairly basic. Is this the case with Hotel Del Coronado? We would take day visits there, but the Glorietta Bay Inn looks quite lovely.

Where would you stay. Glorietty Bay Inn or Hotel Del Coronado? Your help would be GREATLY appreciated! ALSO: What's the best unstuffy restaurant in the area?

Hey - you have to choose - but moi - I would stay at the grand Hotel Del - even if the room was not as nice at the Glorietta Bay Inn. Haven't been in the rooms at the Glorietta Bay Inn - but thought the rooms at the Hotel Del were certainly adequate and it's on the Ocean - with a fabled history.

As for "unstuffy" restaurants - ask when you get there - but along the main drag - Orange Ave - there are a number of choices. http://www.coronadovisitorcenter.com...do-dining.html

You want to ask if the room at the Hotel Del is in the new high rise down the road but near the Hotel, or is it a room in the the old hotel (built in the 1880's) and where you'd go for the restaurants and the beauty of the hotel. The new high rises (my in-laws stayed there years ago) is just like any run of the mill hotel room but the original rooms are smaller, but more charming.

Both are beautiful - I would think the Hotel Del would be a little more crowded because they also get a lot of tourists who visit the lobby the courtyard and the restaurants and the downstairs shops.

The Del is on the beach while the Glorietta Bay Inn is on the bay side, but just a short walk to the beach.

Should clarify when I said > I meant new in comparison to the original Hotel Del. There are two (I think) high rise hotels added to the property built in the late 1970/80's and are typical hotel rooms.

I prefer the Glorietta especially if you stay in one of the suites in the main building. Breakfast, and a very nice one at that, is served on the patio.Lovely. In the evening they leave homemade chocolate chip cookies and a jug of milk in your room. The Del is just too crowded for me.

I've not encountered a problem with "stuffy" restaurants.

Hands Down Hotel Del. You will be sorry if you don't stay here. Best Beach, Victorian rooms are smaller, newer tower one are really nice, but all good. Better pool, ambiance, closer to restaruants, and so great to stay there!

Be aware that the Del has a wide variety of room types. IME to call some of them "Victorian" is a rather nice way of saying NEEDS RENOVATION but the overall location is fantastic.
