hotel close to New York University hotels closeby
 

We were told that the hotel W at Union Square would be well located for us to stay in; our daughter wants to attend NYU and we we'll be visiting the area for a few days. I would like a hotel close enough to walk around the university and get a feel for the area. Thanks.

Yes, the W is close enough and Union Square is also a very convenient location for reaching other parts of the city due to adjacency of subways in the 14th Street station. Gramercy Park Hotel is very close to there but I hear that it's long overdue for a refurb and getting a bit dog-eared. The SoHo Grand is trendy and supposed to be very nice - closer than midtown but not as close as the W.

FYI-the W Union Square is probably the most expensive hotel near NYU. I happened to find the following website which was done for Parent's Day for NYU for this October. It lists hotels that NYU has made special arrangements with for this event.

You'll notice that the W has the highest rates, even through their special arrangements (maybe you can do better?)

If budget is an issue, you can do a text search here for hotels AND nyu.

I do think the W is the nicest & closest hotel.

We might splurge and book the W, I've always been curious about it !!

We've stayed at the W 3 times since then and I must admit I love it; it's pricey but the area feels safe and comfy and there are quite a few good medium priced restaurants on the side streets closeby.
