Hotel choices in San Antonio

My daughter-in-law wants me to meet her in the beginning of February for a weekend. I just had food surgery but am planning on going. She wants to use awards to stay near the Riverwalk and mentioned the O'BrienClarion or Comfort Inn Alamo. She wants to use Choice Hotel rewards. Which one should we stay at or not. I'm open to other suggestions and will just pay, but it has to be reasonable. We will be doing mostly walking. Thanks a bunch! Nancy

The O'Brien is closer to the Riverwalk and downtown attractions, is in an old building that has been adpated fo ruse as a hotel. The other property is a newer purpose built property with a bit more space and closer to the Mexican Market Square. There is also the Tropicana, on a northern bend of the Riverwalk, but the extra blocks may be too much post foot surgery and it is undergoign renovation so may be a bit noisy/dusty.

We always stay @ the Hilton...it is right on the riverwalk. It does cost I think around $200 but it is worth it...

We stayed at the O'Brien in June, and we really enjoyed our stay. There was a great continental breakfast, and it is actually quite pretty. The customer service is very good, and it's within walking distance to most places of interest.

I'd go with the O'Brien. We were in SA a couple weeks ago and walked by the O'Brien several times. It's one or two short blocks to a Riverwalk entrance and right near the thick of things.

Have fun!

Thanks so much for the suggestions. The O'Brien sounds good and they have a great rate.
Does anyone have ideas as to must see attractions, reasonably priced restaurants, etc?

Is it safe to walk around at night in the Riverwalk area?

This is the best group.

As long as you stay within that area, it should be fine. We walked with a 2-year-old, and we didn't get back to the O'Brien until eleven, and we were fine.
