The reviews on Tripadvisor.com almost unanimously complain about how unclean this hotel is. It sounds awful.

No. You can do so much better.

I'd try www.priceline and www.betterbidding for info as well as www.hotels and www.expedia for rates for the dates you will be here.

What kind of budget do you have in mind and we can probably make a few better suggestions.

Several of the hotels in the Apple Core group have rooms available for your dates for about $250; our favorite is the Red Roof Inn, next door to the Empire State Building.

I'm hoping this is a joke. This hotel is the WORST hotel in all of NYC and why it hasn't been closed down long ago is a mystery to me. It's not just unclean. It's UNSAFE. You have selected perhaps the most expensive dates to visit as it coincides with the NYC Marathon. Last year there were some decent prices available with the downturn in the economy, but I suspect your budget is totally unrealistic for those dates. If you can't find something in Manhattan, look at just outside Manhattan in either Jersey City if you're flying in/out of EWR or Long Island City/Queens if you're flying in/out of JFK or LGA.

PS, Not including a Sat. night in your stay usually makes both airfare and hotel prices more expensive. My best piece of advice is to change your dates.

Sory - 3 people can't use Priceline - since they guarantee only one doube bed for 3 people.

You CANNOT stay at that awful place. Agree to look downtown and you might find a deal but marathon weekend wil be expensive anyplace in the metro area.

I can't believe the Hotel Carter is still in business. Wasn't it at one time an SRO?

Funny, I was just showing a colleague the pictures from TripAdvisor not 5 minutes ago.

I suggest you click on the reviews then go through all 500 that have been posted by guests. If multiple photos of bed bug bites, dead mice, blood stained matresses, and dead bugs don't scare you off then not sure what will.

BTW, if you wikipedia the hotel you can read about the long history of homocides at the hotel.

Oh my... if you need a good late afternoon laugh (and brief break from work) check out the reviews on TripAdvisor. Scary... e.g., "Suffice it to say we would not even use the shower or sit on the toilet. God only knows what made those animal sounds in the middle of the night." Yikes!

My favorite review was the woman who used photographs she took while a guest and an after-the-fact discovery that a woman was dismembered and left under a bed as the basis for a story for murder mystery class she was taking.

michelleNYC Sep 1st, 2009 12:29 PM

Wow... Seriously, someone in this city should shut the place down...

Gwendolynn Sep 1st, 2009 01:49 PM

Good grief! No, No , No!
