The most practical thing to do is to take a cab.

I don't know about a hotel shuttle, but I do know that the Olympia Bus (main bus between Newark Airport and lower Manhattan) stops at Canal and Walker which, I believe, is in front of the Tribeca Grand, a really trendy hotel. Check out the Olympia site http://www.coachusa.com/airporterusa...cation_id=1126. With all those people paying a modest amount--add it up--and take a cab.

With all that crap, I wouldn't even attempt to dick around with a shuttle. Take a cab.

Adding to the chorus. You have too much stuff (3 bags, stroller and a baby -- oy!) to worry about a bus.

Find a hotel that's $30-40 a night cheaper and splurge for the taxi.

Check out that page. Unless you feel unsafe in a cab (which might be justified) the shuttle will be more expensive. I use the Super Shuttle and it's very good.

Forgot to mention that I've never heard of a hotel shuttle in NYC. It's probably just too expensive to run. The Super Shuttle will drop you at your hotel though (if you're lucky you'll be first on the list, but maybe not). They try to organize who is on each bus and then the driver sort of asks where everybody is going and figures out the most efficient route. You just follow signs at the airport for Ground Transportation and tell them where you're going. I've seen people with a lot of stuff on them. Tip the driver though!

Cab from Newark very expensive...just so you know. Olympia Trails buses leave from the far western area outside beyond the Baggage Claim area - tickets sold on the lefthand counter just before you exit to the buses themselves. There are still Red Caps at Newark Airport (live men with baggage trolleys that will carry your stuff to the bus - Bus itself is under $15 & will take you to Penn Station area where you will then have to get a taxi to your destination or to Grand Central where you must do the same. It's also possible to call & be met by a car service WHICH IS WHAT I RECOMMEND for around $45-50. Call Tel Aviv or another listed under Car Service in Manhattan (get # from Information for area 212).

In our experience nnrobnz is not quite correct. Correct up to getting to Penn Station or Grand Central. The shuttle bus WILL take you to your hotel but the bus from Newark will take you to either Penn or Grand Central where you transfer to a smaller shuttle bus to take you to your hotel. I think the fare is $11 to the station but $15 for the door to door option. A cab will be about $40 I believe (and depending on traffic and what hotel you are staying at).

I don't know what "shuttle bus" Gretchen is refering to. I specifically mention the Olympia Trails BUS which is a regular sized bus and not likely to take you direct to any hotel. I lived in Manhattan for 25 yrs. and have done this trip often, most recently in Oct. '03.
