Hotel Area in DC - Help
 

All,

My wife and her siblings want to send their parents to Washington DC for their 40th anniversary. We have already booked their airfare, but need help on the hotels. People have suggested Crystal City, and I have been trying to get hotels in that area without much luck.

The only requirements are that they stay in a safe area, close to the Metro and/or near all the attractions (Mall).

Any suggestions on other areas would be appreciated. :)

I would recommend staying in DC itself. Dupont Circle is a nice area to stay - safe area with easy Metro access and lots of restaurants. Also this area is a close taxi ride to attractions in case they wish to forgo the Metro. What is the budget and when is the trip?

We've booked the airfare from 9/4 - 9/7. We would like to spend $150/night or less on hotel if possible.

My wife and I stayed in DuPont Circle a few years back. We stayed in the Hilton back then. The only issue was that I think it may be a hike to the Metro for my in-laws. They are not as fast as they used to be.

Crystal City has a convenient central metro station and a shopping plaza around the station. Sometimes events in the Crystal City area drive up rates. I agree with the Dupont Circle recommendations. DC does have a metro station, safe, with fine restaurants. I would be surprised if rates at Dupont Circle were lower. The third area you should try is Key Bridge - Roslyn. Roslyn has a metro stop. There are several hotels within a couple blocks. It is a short walk across the bridge to Georgetown's restaurant area.

I second the recommendation for Dupont Circle. It's a nice area, and convenient to many restaurants. I usually prefer to stay closer to my evening activities than to my daytime activities...less walking when I'm tired! :)

Here are some hotels close to the Dupont Metro. Jury's Washinbgton and Tabard Inn are within your budget.

Something tells me you were not at the Hilton Embassy Row but the huge Hilton Washington that is a few blocks off the north side of the above map! The Hilton Washington is not even in Dupont, IMO. It's more like Kalorama or Adams Morgan.

Also, any of the hotels on the map below(south of I st.!) would be good locations. Courtyard Marriott Convention center or Red Roof Inn should be in your price range.

The other location that is convenient is the Convention Center/Chinatown neighborhood. There is an Embassy Suites, Rennaisance, Kimpton, and Courtyard by Marriott all within a short walk to the Metro.

How is the Omni? It looks like it's right next to the Woodley Park-Zoo Station...and it's $92 a night.

Try the Harrington hotel.Only two blocks from W.House and Mall in a safe neighbourhood.Paul

The Omni is a great choice, especially for that price. It's a beautiful neighborhood, close to a metro, and a decent hotel. Lots of restaurants in the area as well.

I personally would not stay at the Harrington. It's really run down although the location is fantastic.

I would grab that $98 room at the Omni Shoreham. That's a fantastic rate. The Omni is a great old hotel in a nice area close to a metro stop.

I meant $92/night - even better.

Omni Shoreham is in a great location --5 minutes to the Woodley Park Metro There is a strip along connecticut Ave right near the hotel with lots of good, but not great restaurants. I would grab the room at the $92.

Crystal City Hyatt Regency...it is topnotch. Why no luck?
