Hotel Advice for Washington, DC
My husband will be attending a weeklong conference in Washington, DC in October. We will be joining him at the tail-end. The conference is at the Washington Hilton and Towers on Conn. Street, NW. Unfortunately, they are booked the last few nights of the conference (even for those attending the conference). Any suggestions for nearby hotels. The Hilton is willing to put us up at another Hilton for the final few days but I would rather just stay at one place and not move from one place to another. We would like a place within easy walking distance to the Hilton Towers. Thanking you in advance for your sage advice.

There are two hotels right across the street from the Hilton Towers... a Sofitel and a Marriott Courtyard, I believe. Otherwise, the Capital Hilton on 16th Street downtown is also nice and a pretty good location for access to the White House, museums, some nice restaurants, etc.

thanks Ken. I'll give them both a try. Rachel

The Capital Hilton is actually better situated for seeing most tourist sites than the Wash. Hilton on Connecticut Avenue (not that the latter is a bad location).

I would recommend the Sofitel as your best choice--it's about right across the street and nicer than the Marriott Courtyard (I haven't been in that building in about 10 yrs though, it used to be a Quality hotel, pretty low end). There is also the Jury's Normandy Inn at the corner of Connecticut and Wyoming, just about a block away, if these others fail. I don't know what that's like inside (it's not so pretty on the outside, basic 1960s block), but it might be about same quality as Marriott Courtyard.

Try Loews L'Enfant Plaza. My husband and I stayed there during Labor Day weekend and loved the hotel, especially the location and the rooftop pool! Plus, we had a great nightly rate of $99.00.
