Hotel advice

For our honeymoon we are taking a cruise of Hawaii on the Pride of America. We plan to arrive in Oahu two days before the cruise departs and then staying for six nights after so we can be there to celebrate my 40th birthday (I was born in Oahu and have not been back since we left.)

We are trying to decide between the Outrigger Reef or the Marriott Waikiki for our first two nights and are thinking of breaking up the last six nights between the Hilton Hawaiian Village and then the Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club for a more relaxing environment before our return.

We would appreciate any advice you can offer on these resorts or other suggestions. We reall enjoy being in the water and hanging out by the pool or beach during the day and then having a nice dinner at night. Also, we plan on just renting a car for when we are at the Marriott Ko Olina since that is away from the main strip, but not renting a car while right on Waikiki. Thanks for your help.

The Outrigger Reef On The Beach is in a construction area. The Marriott Ko Olina is also undergoing a renovation.

Renovation underway from 4/1/2005 until 12/31/2005. Construction times from 8am-5pm including weekends. Some noise and dust to be expected. No suite activities or amenities will be interrupted.

You might want to try the Marriott Ihilani which is in the vicinity of the Ko Olina. Or put up with a little construction and try to get a better deal on the hotels because of the construction.

Thanks for the information. With that in mind, we are leaning towards the Marriott Waikiki for our first two nights. We will probably keep the Beach Club reservations since our stay will be at the end of the construction time.

Do you know if there is a car rental agency near the Hilton Hawaiian Village so we can rent a car on our way out to Ko Olina and return it at the airport when we fly out - or will we have to go back to the airport to pick up the car?

Someone awhile back said there was a rental office IN the HHV. Belle

Please consider the Sheraton Moana Surfrider OR the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach (the main"flagship" Outrigger right next to Sheraton MS). I'd guess the Moana Surfirder, will remind you of your childhood days in Oahu. The Outrigger offers "entertainment card " rates. See the Sheraton website for specials on Moana. These two might cost a bit more than the other tow you mentioned but are WELL worth the price difference, IMHO. WHAT a GREAT way to start your vacation!! Happy Birthday!

There are several places in Waikiki where you can rent a car.

Some actually have the cars. But you would probably have to return the car to these locations.

Some have a shuttle or other method to take you to the airport to get the car. This may be your best bet.
