Hotdish in Minneapolis, MN

Do you know of any restaurants offering the Hotdish on their regular menu in the Twin Cities area? We’d appreciate it.

Although MN is known for hot dish, we usually make it at home or for pot lucks so it is not widely available in local restaurants. That being said, this article was in the St. Paul paper this am. There is a restaurant in Egan that specializes in hot dish. Egan is an outer suburb of the Twin Cities on the east side so will be a good 30 minute drive from downtown Mpls but seems like your best bet and will offer the most choices.

You can also try The Bulldog in NE Minneapolis--this is close to down town. I would call ahead and make sure they still have it. They recently closed and reopened. Also it is not a big restaurant so get reservations if you can. They just serve tater tot hot dish so no variety but I have always liked their food.
Another place is Eli's. They rotate their menu so you will want to call and see if it is on their current menu.

I'm trying to say this in the nicest way possible. MCHS's link to the twin cities food article is a strong reason to hold the Super Bowl in ... New Orleans.

BugRuss, you would be surprised .

Try Hautedish, in the warehouse district. 112 Eatery might serve a version.

HauteDish, sadly, is closed. I was thinking of HiLo Diner or Travail as a possibility.

BigRuss, the Minneapolis food scene is actually pretty amazing. Just like our museums and theaters, undervalued by the rest of the country, but world class nonetheless. If you aren't set on hot dish (and really no one actually eats hot dish unless they are at pot luck) try some of these fabulous Minnesota restaurants....bar la grassa, 112 Eatery, Travail, Spoon and Stable, Bachelor Farmer, Tilia, Lucia, Young Joni, Martina, Butcher and Boar, Alma......

Enjoy your visit!

BugRuss--not to pile on here, but they didn't ask where I would go--they wanted Hot Dish. Echoing taitai.. given the hundreds of restaurants and multiple James Beard award winning chefs here the food scene is great. Come in July and enjoy a great patio meal at one of the places taitai mentioned or more. It is telling that with all the restaurants to choose from we struggled to come up with a good place for hot dish reiterating the fact that that is not what we consider fine dining. Regarding the article-- a Juicy Lucy and a beer at Matts although not haute cuisine, is a pretty good dive meal even featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. And lightly breaded seared Walleye is a great entrée-- come try for yourself.
