hot springs or spas near Big Bend

We are planning a weeklong road trip to southwest Texas in late October with stops in the Del Rio area, Marfa and Big Bend. We thought a visit to some kind of hot springs or spa would be nice. The only things we've found so far are the resort at Lajitas (too fancy) and Chianti Hot Springs (a little funky for us.)

Does anyone know of any other possibilities?

Honestly, those are about it. The only other resort I can think of near Big Bend is the Gage Hotel at Marathon.

In Del Rio, there is definitely NOT anything fancy. DH and I are there every year to visit his parents.

Thanks, Christie. We will probably spend at least one night in the Del Rio area to visit Seminole Canyon. Any suggestions for cool non-chain (not necessarily fancy) places to stay around there? How about good places to eat?

I have yet to find a B&B in Del Rio. Stay at a chain in Del Rio, please. The only non-chain places I can think of (Del Rio Motor Lodge) are scary! We like to stay at the Air Force Base there, but not everyone has that privilege.

If you were willing to stop earlier in Bracketville, Fort Clark Springs is really nice. But that is 45 minutes east of Del Rio.

Oh, pleases to eat...

Avanti's is decent Italian, but what they do really well is steak!

Don Marcelino's is Norteno mexican food, NOT Tex-Mex. They do not give drink refills. But the food is really good! I love the tacos tapatios!

The steakkhouse out on Highway 90 between Fisherman's Headquarters and Amistad Lake is good!

Great, Christie. I will take that info with me. Does Norteno mean Norther Mexico?

Yes, Norteno is Northern Mexico, as opposed to Tex-Mex. It is not nearly as spicy but we love it. Hubby raves about DM's guisado!
